Overview
gwk Gesellschaft Wärme Kältetechnik mbH (commonly shortened to gwk) is a German engineering company that designs concepts for the treatment of thermodynamic processes in industrial manufacturing and supplies the associated engineering, components and system solutions. Its business fields cover temperature control technology, cooling technology (cooling plants), refrigeration technology (chillers), water treatment and tooling technology (injection moulding tools). The company is headquartered in Meinerzhagen, Germany. The firm was founded at the end of 1967 and was based in Kierspe until June 2014, when it moved its headquarters and production to Meinerzhagen. From its earliest years gwk held a monopoly position in the cooling of plastic film production, both for the blown-film principle (in which molten plastic is blown from an extruder as a film tube) and for the flat-film principle (in which the melt is pressed out through a slit). Hot-air stretching units, which blow hot air onto still-liquid plastic as part of extrusion lines, were also produced from the beginning. A third pillar was cleaning and cooling plants for the cooling water of wire-drawing machines. Over the decades gwk broadened its portfolio. In the 1970s it introduced the Hebomat automation technology for injection moulding (1972), cross-flow cooling towers with corrosion-free, water-resistant double cells (1973) and chillers for producing the soft-foam car seat for the VW Golf (1976). In 1980 it presented its first film cooling plant with heat recovery, followed a year later by its first container cooling plant. Further development of temperature-control devices led to the first temperature-control block, a compact system for tempering injection moulding tools. In 1988 gwk introduced the multi-circuit temperature-control device integrat, which enabled even and fault-free painting of uneven surfaces without pre-treatment; it was used by the automotive industry to paint bumpers in the car's original colour. In 1999 the development of plants for treating water to meet production requirements was added. In 2002 the tooling technology business field followed with the system integrat series, which controls flow and temperature in the tool areas of injection moulding machines. Since 2008 the successor device integrat evolution has been produced, enabling faster temperature changes with lower energy consumption. In 2004 gwk received the Großer Preis des Mittelstandes (Grand Prize of the German Mittelstand). Internationally, gwk delivered hot-air stretching units to Iran in the 1970s for plants producing carpet backing fabric, and installed cooling plants for pump stations of seawater desalination plants in Saudi Arabia; further projects were carried out in Syria, Iraq and Egypt. Its first foreign branch was established in Slough, southern England, in 1988, followed by a German-Indian joint venture in 1997. Today gwk maintains 17 branches in Germany, China and India, plus 33 representatives and service partners in 20 countries. More than 400 employees develop, manufacture and install complete process solutions for temperature control and cooling at the Meinerzhagen site, in customer-specific designs. The scope of services includes not only the supply of devices and plants but also process engineering consulting and the determination of operating costs. Since 1 October 2021, following its merger with Reisner Cooling Solutions of Holzwickede, gwk Gesellschaft Wärme Kältetechnik mbH has operated under the name Technotrans Solutions. It is part of the technotrans Group, which focuses on applications within its core competence of fluid technology. With 21 locations and around 1,250 employees, the group is present in all important markets worldwide and has for many years systematically opened up new application areas within its core competences of cooling, temperature control, filtration and measuring and dosing technology.
History
gwk Gesellschaft Wärme Kältetechnik mbH was founded at the end of 1967. Until June 2014 the company had its headquarters in Kierspe; since then it has produced machines and apparatus for refrigeration and heating technology in Meinerzhagen, with a focus on the cooling process in the manufacture of plastic films. From its early days gwk held a monopoly position in cooling for both the blown-film principle, in which molten plastic is blown from an extruder as a film tube, and the flat-film principle, in which the melt is pressed out through a slit. Hot-air stretching units were also produced from the outset; as part of extrusion lines they blow hot air onto still-liquid plastic as required during a production phase. A third pillar was cleaning and cooling plants for the cooling water of wire-drawing machines. In the 1970s the company introduced several new technologies: the Hebomat automation technology for injection moulding (1972), cross-flow cooling towers with corrosion-free and water-resistant double cells (1973), and chillers for producing the soft-foam car seat for the VW Golf (1976). In 1980 the first film cooling plant with heat recovery was presented, and a year later the first container cooling plant was created. In the following years, further development of temperature-control devices led to the first temperature-control block, a compact system for tempering injection moulding tools. In 1988 gwk introduced the multi-circuit temperature-control device integrat, which enabled even and fault-free painting of even uneven surfaces without pre-treatment. integrat was used by the automotive industry for painting bumpers in the original colour of the car. In 1999 the development of plants for preparing water to meet the requirements of production facilities was added. In 2002 the tooling technology business field was added with the system integrat series. These devices, a further development of integrat, control the flow and temperature in the tool areas of injection moulding machines. Since 2008 the successor device integrat evolution has been manufactured; it enables faster temperature changes with lower energy consumption. In 2004 gwk was awarded the Großer Preis des Mittelstandes. Internationally, in the 1970s gwk delivered hot-air stretching units to Iran for plants producing carpet backing fabric. In Saudi Arabia, cooling plants were installed for pump stations of seawater desalination plants. Further projects were carried out in Syria, Iraq and Egypt. In 1988 the first foreign branch was established in Slough, southern England, followed by the founding of a German-Indian joint venture in 1997. Today gwk maintains 17 branches in Germany, China and India, and additionally has 33 representatives and service partners in 20 countries. More than 400 employees develop, manufacture and install complete process solutions for temperature control and cooling at the Meinerzhagen site, in customer-specific designs. The scope of services includes not only the supply of devices and plants but also process engineering consulting and the determination of operating costs. Since 1 October 2021, following its merger with Reisner Cooling Solutions of Holzwickede, gwk Gesellschaft Wärme Kältetechnik mbH, Meinerzhagen, has operated under the name Technotrans Solutions. The company is part of the technotrans Group, which focuses successfully on applications within its core competence of fluid technology. With 21 locations and around 1,250 employees, the group is present in all important markets worldwide. For many years technotrans has systematically opened up new application areas within its core competences of cooling, temperature control, filtration and measuring and dosing technology. The strategy is geared to sustainable, results-oriented development.
