Overview

Hälg Holding AG, commonly marketed as Hälg Group, is a Swiss building-technology and integrated facility-management company headquartered in St. Gallen. Founded in 1922 by Ferdinand Hälg as Ferd. Hälg Zentralheizungsfabrik, a heating-installation firm, the company has grown over more than a century into a nationwide group of subsidiaries with over 1,000 employees and locations across Switzerland. It remains an owner-managed family business, now led by the fourth generation of the founder's descendants, Marcel and Roger Baumer. The group's services span the full life cycle of building technology: planning and realisation, maintenance and renovation. Its technical disciplines include heating, ventilation, air conditioning, refrigeration, sanitary installations and building automation, complemented by facility management, service and maintenance, and ventilation-duct cleaning. Hälg positions itself as a specialist in Anlagenbau (plant construction), Gebäudeautomation (building automation), Service and Lüftungsreinigung (ventilation cleaning), and as a provider of integral facility management. Hälg Group operates through a holding structure established in 1989, with multiple subsidiaries and branches that give it nationwide reach while remaining locally anchored. From 2002 to 2019 the group used the umbrella brand Hälg Building Services Group before switching to Hälg Group in 2019. The company has grown substantially through acquisitions, absorbing numerous regional building-technology firms across Switzerland, including Klima AG (2005), Brunner Haustechnik AG (2010), Zahn + Co. AG (2012), Goag General Optimizing AG (2014), Dober AG (2017), Meneo Énergie SA (2018), Jul. Meisser Haustechnik AG (2020), Malpur Gebäudetechnik AG (2021), Simeon Haustechnik AG, ETAVIS Facility Services AG and Gygli + Partner AG (2022), Ardüser AG (2023), and Meier Tobler Lüftungshygiene AG, Caspar Haustechnik AG and Oberhänsli AG Gebäudetechnik (2024), followed by Löwen Bau- und Betriebs AG and Charly Sanitaire SA in 2025. Financially, the group has reported steady growth: revenue of CHF 269 million with 765 employees in 2011, CHF 293 million in 2017, CHF 315 million with 1,117 employees in 2021, CHF 315.7 million with 1,057 employees in 2022, CHF 360 million with 1,144 employees in 2023, and CHF 365 million with 1,240 employees in 2024. The company emphasises customer satisfaction and employee loyalty, citing that 97% of customers and 94% of employees would recommend it. In 2024 it reorganised its leadership: owners Marcel and Roger Baumer stepped back from operational roles to focus on their strategic duties as board members, and Sandro Keller became CEO of the largest division, Gebäudetechnik (building technology).

History

Hälg Holding AG traces its origins to 1922, when Ferdinand Hälg founded Ferd. Hälg Zentralheizungsfabrik in St. Gallen as a firm for the installation of heating systems. Ferdinand Hälg had previously worked as an engineer at Sulzer in Zurich and came from modest origins. After his death in 1940, the business was converted into the limited partnership Hälg & Co., and in 1945 direction passed to his son, Emil Hälg. In 1981 the company became a joint-stock company named Hälg & Co. AG. With Heinz Graf-Hälg, the third generation took over leadership in 1986. A holding structure was established in 1989, and in the following years the group made several acquisitions and founded the subsidiary Hälg Facility Management AG. From 2002 to 2019 the group of companies presented itself under the umbrella brand Hälg Building Services Group. In 2008, brothers Roger and Marcel Baumer, great-grandsons of the founder, took over the leadership of the company. In 2019 the umbrella brand changed from Hälg Building Services Group to Hälg Group. In 2021 the company opened a new site dedicated to building automation (domotics) in Givisiez, in the canton of Fribourg — its seventh site in Switzerland and second in French-speaking Switzerland. On 1 January 2024, Marcel and Roger Baumer handed over their operational activities, and Sandro Keller took over leadership of the building-technology division. Acquisitions have been a central element of the group's growth. In 2005 Klima AG, headquartered in Basel, joined the group. In 2010 the group acquired the building-technology engineering firm Brunner Haustechnik AG of Wallisellen. In 2012 it acquired Zahn + Co. AG of Kreuzlingen. In 2014 it acquired Goag General Optimizing AG of Zurich. In 2017 it made acquisitions of two companies in the St. Gallen region and of Dober AG of Schlieren. In 2018 it took over Meneo Énergie SA, with branches in Marin-Epagnier and La Chaux-de-Fonds. In 2020 it acquired Jul. Meisser Haustechnik AG of Chur. In 2021 it acquired Malpur Gebäudetechnik AG, active in maintenance and repair of technical building installations. In 2022 it acquired Simeon Haustechnik AG (plumbing and heating), ETAVIS Facility Services AG (Zurich region) and Gygli + Partner AG (ventilation and air conditioning for industry). In 2023 it acquired Ardüser AG of Arosa. In 2024 it acquired Meier Tobler Lüftungshygiene AG, Caspar Haustechnik AG and Oberhänsli AG Gebäudetechnik. In 2025 it acquired Löwen Bau- und Betriebs AG and Charly Sanitaire SA in Fribourg. Financially, the group reported revenue of CHF 269 million with 765 employees in 2011, CHF 293 million in 2017, CHF 315 million with 1,117 employees in 2021, CHF 315.7 million with 1,057 employees in 2022, CHF 360 million with 1,144 employees in 2023, and CHF 365 million with 1,240 employees in 2024. Today the Hälg Group comprises several subsidiaries with over 1,000 employees and locations throughout Switzerland, realising projects in heating, ventilation, air conditioning, refrigeration, sanitary and building automation, and offering facility management as well as service and maintenance.
