Overview

Hämeen Media Oy was a Finnish media company based in Lahti that specialised in producing printed and digital content and media services for the Häme region. Until January 2022 it operated under the name Mediatalo Esa Oy. The company was part of the Keskisuomalainen media group, which acquired Mediatalo Esa in September 2016. In September 2022, Hämeen Sanomat Oy merged into Hämeen Media Oy, consolidating operations across the Häme region and establishing the company's main office on Ilmarisentie in Lahti. Hämeen Media published several regional newspapers, including Etelä-Suomen Sanomat, Forssan Lehti, Hämeen Sanomat, Hämeenlinnan Kaupunkiuutiset, Itä-Häme, Keski-Häme, Seutuneloset and Uusi Lahti. On 1 April 2025, Hämeen Media merged with Keski-Suomen Media to form Päijänne Media Oy, with some operations from Kaakon Viestintä also incorporated into the new company. Päijänne Media itself later merged into Keskisuomalainen Media Oy in 2026. Hämeen Media is therefore a defunct corporate brand, though its newspaper titles continue under the Keskisuomalainen Media umbrella.

History

Hämeen Media Oy was a Finnish media company that operated in the Häme region, specialising in the production of printed and digital content as well as media services. Until January 2022, the company was known as Mediatalo Esa Oy. In September 2016, the Keskisuomalainen media group acquired Mediatalo ESA, which at that time owned Hämeen Media. This acquisition brought the Hämeen Media operations under the Keskisuomalainen umbrella. In September 2022, Hämeen Sanomat Oy merged into Hämeen Media Oy, a move that consolidated the company's position as a media house serving the entire Häme region. Following the merger, Hämeen Media's main office was located on Ilmarisentie in Lahti. The company published a portfolio of regional newspapers, including Etelä-Suomen Sanomat, Forssan Lehti, Hämeen Sanomat, Hämeenlinnan Kaupunkiuutiset, Itä-Häme, Keski-Häme, Seutuneloset and Uusi Lahti. On 1 April 2025, Hämeen Media merged with Keski-Suomen Media to form Päijänne Media Oy. Parts of Kaakon Viestintä's operations were also incorporated into the new entity. Subsequently, Päijänne Media Oy merged into Keskisuomalainen Media Oy in 2026, marking the end of Hämeen Media as a separate corporate entity. The Hämeen Media brand is now defunct, but its newspaper titles continue to be published under the Keskisuomalainen Media organisation.
