Overview
Getränke Hörl is a German beverage store chain. According to its official history, founder Martin Hörl began his career at age 31 as a brewery worker and beer driver at the Münch brewery in Geisenfeld; in 1967, after the Münch brewery was taken over by the Toerring brewery in Pörnbach, he worked as an independent home-delivery driver, and that same year he resigned from the Toerring brewery and, together with his wife Gerta, started a beverage trade at the family's then-agricultural property in Geisenfeld/Gaden. In 1972 the business opened one of the first beverage pickup markets in Ingolstadt, at Am Pulverl. In 1978 Martin Hörl leased the Klosterbrauerei Geisenfeld, but production proved too costly, and a contract brewing agreement was concluded with Nordbräu in Ingolstadt for the Klosterbiere. The company was awarded the 'Bayerns Best 50' prize by the Bavarian State Ministry for Economic Affairs, Regional Development and Energy, with the award ceremony held on 29 July 2025 at Schleißheim Palace.
History
According to the official company history, at age 31 founder Martin Hörl began his career in Geisenfeld as a brewery worker and beer driver at the Münch brewery. In 1967 the Münch brewery was taken over by the Toerring brewery in Pörnbach, where Martin Hörl worked as an independent home-delivery driver; this period produced the first trade registration and laid the foundation for Getränke Hörl GmbH. That same year Martin Hörl decided to resign from the Toerring brewery and, together with his wife Gerta, start a beverage trade at the family's then-agricultural property in Geisenfeld/Gaden. At that time the A9 was being expanded, and the couple used the expansion to supply workers with beverages and food; the necessary vehicle fleet was provided by the then Paulaner-Thomasbräu München in the form of 2 trucks. In 1972 the business idea soon led to the decision to open one of the first beverage pickup markets in Ingolstadt, located at Am Pulverl; in 1972 the first day's takings were 3.50 DM, and on the second day revenue rose to a considerable 16.80 DM. In 1978 Martin Hörl's dream of building his own small brewery almost came true: he leased the Klosterbrauerei Geisenfeld, but it soon emerged that producing the beers was too costly, so a contract brewing agreement for the production of the Klosterbiere was concluded with the firm Nordbräu in Ingolstadt.
