Overview
Hüttenes-Albertus is a globally operating family business in foundry chemistry. Its roots go back over 100 years: in 1905 Albert Stahn founded Albertuswerke GmbH in Hannover, initially making UV arc lamps, and in the early 1920s began focusing on foundry chemistry, developing organic core binders and later machines for casting production. Separately, Wilhelm Hüttenes founded Hüttenes & Gerling in Ruhrort in 1909; in 1912 he and Karl Hüttenes founded Gebrüder Hüttenes o.H., which moved to Düsseldorf in 1916 and initially processed paper-industry waste liquor, later discovering its use as a binder for core sand. Today HA describes itself as a foundry chemicals manufacturer and the link between foundries and machine manufacturers, offering a comprehensive product program for all process steps and supporting customers with foundry engineers, metallurgists and chemists.
History
The roots of Hüttenes-Albertus go back over 100 years. In 1905 Albert Stahn, an inventor, founded Albertuswerke GmbH in Hannover, initially dedicated to producing the "UV arc lamp," the predecessor of today's solarium. In the early 1920s Albert Stahn began orienting the company toward foundry chemistry, developing new organic core binders and later machines for manufacturing castings. Separately, after Wilhelm Hüttenes founded Hüttenes & Gerling in Ruhrort in 1909, a restart occurred in 1912 when Wilhelm and Karl Hüttenes jointly founded Gebrüder Hüttenes o.H. In 1916 the brothers moved their company to Düsseldorf. The company initially dealt with utilizing waste liquor from the paper industry; the course for today's company was set when it was discovered that the material could also serve as a binder for core sand. The foundry industry was so large and important that it was worthwhile to focus entirely on it. In the 1950s, Gebrüder Hüttenes presented their products; mechanical engineering changed rapidly, and castings for radiators, compressors and combustion engines became more complicated, placing increasing demands on dimensionally accurate molds and cores. Clay-bonded sands, whose properties were previously improved by adding sawdust or horse manure, were no longer suitable, and cellulose waste liquor, usable only with other binders, was not a lasting solution either. Today Hüttenes-Albertus describes itself as a globally operating and successful family business.
