Overview

H.A. Brieger (SIA H.A.Brieger) is a Latvian cosmetics manufacturer that owns and produces the legendary Dzintars brand. The company was founded in 2006 as SIA Instruments, a subsidiary of Daugavpils Lokomotīvju Remonta Rūpnīca (DLRR). In 2020, it acquired the assets of the insolvent cosmetics producer AS Dzintars, including the factory in Riga, production equipment, and 87 trademarks. The company was renamed SIA Dzintars Production in October 2020 and then SIA H.A.Brieger in January 2021, reviving the historical name of the 19th-century soap and perfume manufacturer Heinrich Adolf Brieger. Production restarted in March 2021, and the Dzintars brand was relaunched in Latvia, followed by Lithuania, Estonia, and Georgia. The company is owned by SIA Skinest Asset Management (67%), a subsidiary of Estonian AS SKINEST GRUPP, and SIA ASKO R (33%), owned by Anastasija Udalova, who is also the CEO. H.A. Brieger produces a wide range of cosmetics under the Dzintars brand, including perfumes, skin care, body care, hair care, sunscreens, shower gels, hand soaps, toothpastes, and lip balms. The company emphasizes natural ingredients, with products containing at least 95% natural ingredients. Its product lines include Dunte (anti-aging), Melnsils (acne-prone skin), Roja (moisturizing), and Dear Body (body care), as well as the Hypno Pharma relaxation collection. The company aims to become the largest cosmetics manufacturer in the Baltic States.

History

The history of the Dzintars brand dates back to 1849, when the talented soap manufacturer H.A. Briegers opened the first perfume factory in Riga. Within three generations, the company grew from a few employees to the dominant producer in the region. After World War II, the company changed hands and many of its secrets were lost. The modern company SIA H.A.Brieger was founded on 20 December 2006 as SIA Instruments, a subsidiary of Daugavpils Lokomotīvju Remonta Rūpnīca (DLRR). In 2007, its turnover was 189.13 thousand euros, but afterwards no economic activity took place. In August 2020, DLRR's subsidiary SIA Ritrem bought the assets of the insolvent cosmetics producer Dzintars for one euro, including buildings in Riga at Mālu iela 30, production equipment, vehicles, furniture, office equipment, and 87 trademarks. Production was planned to restart at the Dzintars factory by SIA Instruments. On 7 October 2020, SIA Instruments was renamed SIA Dzintars Production, and Anastasija Udalova became a board member. In early November, SIA Asko R, owned by Anastasija Udalova, acquired 32.43% of Dzintars Production shares. On 8 January 2021, SIA Dzintars Production was renamed SIA H.A.Brieger, and a branch SIA H.A.Brieger filiāle Dzintars Production was established. In March 2021, the first products were released and an online store was created. On 24 September 2021, 67.00% of SIA H.A.Brieger shares were taken over from AS Daugavpils Lokomotīvju Remonta Rūpnīca by SIA Skinest Asset Management, a subsidiary of Estonian AS SKINEST GRUPP. Its beneficial owner, Estonian entrepreneur Oļegs Osinovskis, is the partner of A. Udalova. The company has since relaunched the Dzintars brand in Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, and Georgia, and expanded its product range with new toothpastes and the Hypno Pharma body care collection.
