Overview

Haase Forlag (officially Haase Bogproduktion A/S) is a Danish book publisher based in Copenhagen whose history can be traced back to 1877. It is best known for publishing school and textbooks as well as non-fiction. The company began when Gyldendal sold its bookshop in Klareboderne to its then managers, Daniel Emil Lehmann and Carl Sechmann Stage. Soon Lehmann & Stage also offered book publications, primarily commission writings and school books, such as Kr. Mikkelsen's Dansk Sproglære from 1894. In 1896 Lehmann & Stage received hymn books on commission for Det Kongelige Vajsenhus and Bibles for Det Danske Bibelselskab. Production and sale of hymn books and Bibles in Denmark continued until the beginning of the 1980s. The following year the publisher moved to Løvstræde 8, where it is still located. In 1911 Poul Peter Melbye Haase, who had been employed since 1884, became co-owner of the firm. Ten years later his son Ejnar Haase was admitted as a partner, which changed the company name to P. Haase & Søn. During Ejnar Haase's time the publishing business expanded to include many literary fiction publications. The publishing house was continued in 1959 by Ejnar Haase's son Niels Jørgen Haase. The bookshop function was sold off in 1993, as the company's management concentrated on publishing. Three years later the fourth generation, Michael Haase, took over management and in 2003 became sole owner. In 2021 the publisher was taken over by Lindhardt & Ringhof. Until then Haase Forlag had its seat in Løvstræde, Copenhagen. The teaching system Tre Religioner won the teaching material prize in 2008 after five years of development work. The publication Barrison-feberen by Hans Henrik Appel was declared Historical Book of the Year for 2020.
