HABAU Hoch- und Tiefbaugesellschaft m.b.H — commonly known as HABAU or the HABAU GROUP — is an Austrian construction group headquartered in Perg, Upper Austria. The corporate lineage traces back to 1913, when Vinzenz Halatschek registered a master mason's building business in Hohenfurth (today Vyšší Brod, Czech Republic); after the founding of Czechoslovakia he continued the business in Perg. In 1950 Erich Halatschek took over his father's operation and in 1955 brought it into Ing. Erich Halatschek & Co. OHG, founded together with his brother-in-law Georg Heindl, which shifted the focus toward equipment rental, mechanised earthmoving and civil engineering. The present-day company, HABAU Hoch- und Tiefbaugesellschaft m.b.H, was established on 5 September 1989. The company is privately held. Its shareholders are Halatschek Holding GmbH (60%, owned by the Halatschek family, managing director Peter Halatschek) and Heindl Holding GmbH (40%, owned by the Heindl family, managing director Georgine Rumpler-Heindl). HABAU describes itself as an international full-service provider covering almost all areas of construction. Its service portfolio combines Hochbau (building construction), Tiefbau (civil engineering), Fertigteilbau (precast construction), Untertagebau (underground/tunnelling), Pipelinebau (pipeline construction), Holzbau (timber construction) and Stahl- und Anlagenbau (steel and plant engineering) under one roof. According to the company website, the HABAU GROUP comprises 14 group companies, employs around 7,200 people, generates annual revenue of roughly EUR 2.2 billion and is active in 18 countries.
