History
Hachaklait was founded in 1919 in the Lower Galilee settlements by farmers and for farmers as a cooperative association. Its central goal at founding was livestock insurance, with the provision of veterinary services added at a later stage. The organization expanded and grew in accordance with the development and growth of cooperative and private agriculture. It accompanied the farmer to all regions of the country, was involved in the establishment and development of farms, supported farmers through crises and epidemics, and helped bring the livestock sector to the high international level it has reached in quality, health, and productivity. In the 1970s, it was decided to renovate the building in Haifa at the Bat Galim junction, including wall-to-wall carpets and new cabinets. Dr. Aharon Shapira served as a doctor in Hachaklait from the late 1930s until 1975; he initially lived in Degania A and served as a doctor in the Jordan Valley area, and in 1942 requested to stop working to volunteer as a guard, but Hachaklait thought otherwise. Professor Zeev Gross of Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, a native of Yavne'el and grandson of Haim Zimmerman, one of the founders of Hachaklait, wrote an article on 'Yavne'el is a parable' including an important chapter on the establishment of Hachaklait, noting that Hachaklait became a symbol and example of business partnership between political rivals and an example in its efforts to cultivate the cattle and livestock sector in the country and to finance medical research.
