History
Haema GmbH was originally founded under the name Labor Diagnostika GmbH in 1993 by the Free State of Saxony and the districts of Oschatz and Döbeln. It was privatized in 1996. In 1997, the regional blood donation center of the district of Grimma was taken over. In 2002, after building large blood donation centers in Dresden and taking over Haema Holding AG (Berlin), the company operated under the name Haema AG. In 2005, centralization of key business areas in Leipzig was completed. In 2006, six blood donation centers in Saxony and Thuringia were acquired. In 2007, six new centers were opened in Schwerin, Rostock, Görlitz, Dortmund, Essen, and Berlin-Charlottenburg. In 2008, centers in Bonn, Hamm, Weimar, and the new Central Donor Laboratory in Berlin were opened. In 2009, centers in Brandenburg a. d. H., Freiberg, Frankfurt (Oder), and Lübeck followed. In 2010, Haemoplasma Blutspende GmbH in Potsdam and Haemotrans Blutspende GmbH in Leipzig were taken over, and for the first time over one million donations were collected. In January 2011, the 30th center was opened in Berlin-Wedding. On December 15, 2011, the first center in Saxony-Anhalt was opened in Halle (Saale).
