Overview

Haendler & Natermann Sport GmbH, commonly known as H&N Sport, is a German manufacturer of air gun pellets and bullets based in Hann. Münden. The company's origins trace back to 1825, when Johann Georg Haendler and Friedrich August Natermann founded a forwarding business that evolved into a packaging manufacturer and later into lead processing. In 1847, Carl Georg August Natermann acquired a former fortified tower in Hann. Münden and converted it into a shot tower, marking the beginning of lead shot production under the "Lätare" brand, which continued until the 1980s. Bullet manufacturing began in the 1890s, and since the 1950s the company has produced a wide range of air gun pellets, muzzle-loader round balls, and bullets for large-calibre firearms. Today, H&N Sport is one of the world's leading manufacturers in its sector. The company produces air gun pellets in numerous geometries and weights for applications including 10m Olympic sport shooting, field target, hunting, leisure, plinking, CO2 pistols, and round balls. It also manufactures bullets for handguns and rifles as well as muzzle-loader round balls. All products are made exclusively by cold forming (pressing) on purpose-built machinery at the company's factory in Hann. Münden, a method that ensures high uniformity and avoids casting defects such as shrinkage cavities. H&N Sport maintains worldwide partnerships with leading firearms and ammunition manufacturers, producing ammunition for companies such as J.G. Anschütz, Beretta/Stoeger Airguns, BSA, Daystate, Diana, Feinwerkbau, FX Airguns, German Sport Guns, Hatsan, Mauser, Norica, SIG Sauer, Walther, Webley & Scott, Weihrauch, and Umarex. The company became fully independent from its former parent Haendler & Natermann GmbH in 2008 and moved to a new production hall in 2013. Its logo historically featured the medieval Fährenpfortenturm (also known as Hagelturm or Natermannturm), a tower in the Münden city fortifications that was used for lead shot production until 1981 and now houses a working museum.

History

The roots of H&N Sport go back to 1 January 1825, when Johann Georg Haendler and Friedrich August Natermann founded a forwarding business that developed into the packaging manufacturer Haendler & Natermann. The company initially focused on the industrial production of rolled lead and lead foil, used for lining tobacco and tea tins. In 1847, Carl Georg August Natermann acquired a former fortified tower in Hann. Münden and converted it into a shot tower, beginning the production of lead shot under the "Lätare" brand, which continued until the 1980s. Bullet manufacturing started in the 1890s. In 1884, the company established its own health insurance fund, and in 1898 it modernized its cap factory and lead rolling mill. After World War II, production resumed in 1946, including the finishing of aluminium foil. Since 1955, the company has manufactured air gun pellets, muzzle-loader bullets, and bullets for large-calibre firearms. Production is carried out exclusively on purpose-built machinery using cold forming (pressing), a method that ensures high uniformity and avoids casting defects. In 2008, the company became fully independent from its former parent Haendler & Natermann GmbH, and in 2013 it moved to a new production hall. The company's logo historically featured the medieval Fährenpfortenturm (also known as Hagelturm or Natermannturm), a tower in the Münden city fortifications that was used for lead shot production until 1981 and now houses a working museum.
