Overview

Hager Group is a privately owned German electrical-equipment manufacturer headquartered in Blieskastel, Saarland. Established in 1955 by Peter Hager and his sons Oswald and Hermann Hager, the company began by producing electrical installation components and gradually developed into a broader supplier for residential, commercial and industrial buildings. Its products are used to distribute, protect, manage and control electrical energy, as well as to organize cabling, automate buildings and provide security and communication functions. The company’s early development was shaped by the commercial position of Saarland after the Second World War. The founders sought access to both the French and German markets, and in 1959 created Hager Electro in Obernai, Alsace, its first foreign subsidiary. This cross-border orientation became a defining feature of the group. Hager expanded from basic wiring accessories into modular distribution systems, protective devices, cable-management products, switches, timers, building controls and security equipment. Acquisitions from the 1990s onward added local manufacturing capabilities, technical expertise and established brands in several markets. Hager’s portfolio is sold principally under the Hager name, with specialist activities retained under brands including Berker, Bocchiotti, Daitem, Diagral, Elcom, E3/DC, Eficia, Advizeo and Pmflex. The group’s major business areas are energy distribution and metering, cable management, switches and building control, and security systems. Its offerings include distribution boards, enclosures, circuit-protection equipment, wiring accessories, cable ducts, electrical switches, intercoms, alarms, energy-management systems, inverters and battery-storage solutions. The group has built its market position around complete electrical-installation systems rather than isolated components. It supports electricians and other professional customers through training, technical services and local production adapted to national installation standards. Hager has operated in more than 120 countries and, according to reference material, has 22 manufacturing sites in 10 countries. Obernai in France is described as its largest production location and is also home to the Hager Forum, a training and meeting facility opened in 2015. Hager became a European Company, Hager SE, in 2007. In later years it expanded its interests in intelligent buildings, renewable-energy integration, energy storage and electric mobility. Its 2018 acquisition of E3/DC strengthened its position in inverters and residential energy-storage systems, while a collaboration with Audi focused on connecting the e-tron electric vehicle with a home-energy-management system. The company also continues to invest in testing, automation, research and development, and manufacturing capacity. Hager remains family-run and privately held. Reference material reports approximately 13,000 employees and revenue exceeding €3.2 billion in 2023; these figures are time-specific and should not be treated as current without a newer company disclosure. The group’s present positioning combines professional-grade electrical infrastructure with connected building and energy-management technologies. Hager SE, commonly known as Hager Group, is a family-owned electrical engineering company headquartered in Blieskastel, Saarland, Germany. The business began in 1955 in Ensheim, where brothers Oswald and Hermann Hager founded Hager oHG with their father, Peter Hager. Its original focus was electrical installation equipment, particularly components used in residential distribution systems. The company developed in a region whose post-war economic links to France encouraged it to build a presence on both sides of the German-French border. In 1959, it established its first foreign subsidiary, Hager Electro S.A. in Obernai, Alsace. Hager's traditional strength is the design and manufacture of equipment that distributes, protects, organizes and controls electrical power inside buildings. Its portfolio includes distribution boards, modular protection devices, residual-current circuit breakers, cable ducts and cable-management products, switches, building-control systems, energy-management equipment and security solutions. The group serves residential, commercial and industrial construction markets, with products adapted to local installation standards through a network of manufacturing and commercial operations. The company expanded beyond its original German product base through internal development and acquisitions. Major additions included the Italian distribution-board manufacturer Lumetal in 1992, Tehalit in 1996 for cable management, Flash and Ashley & Rock in 1998, Polo in Poland in 2002, Weber AG and Atral in 2004, Eletromar in Brazil in 2006, Electraplan Solutions in 2009, Berker in 2010 and Elcom in 2012. These transactions broadened Hager's geographic reach and added expertise in cable routing, switching, timers, security, intercoms and electrical distribution. In 2018, the group acquired E3/DC, strengthening its activities in inverters, energy storage and home energy management. Hager Group's principal activities are organized around four broad application areas: energy distribution and metering; cable management for power and data; switches, building control and smart-building systems; and security. The Hager brand is the group's principal identity for electrical installation solutions, while specialist businesses and brands include Berker, Bocchiotti, Iboco, Daitem, Diagral, Elcom, E3/DC, Eficia, Advizeo and Pmflex. Some former product brands, including Tehalit, Weber, Lume, Klik, Flash, Polo, Ashley & Rock and Logisty, have been incorporated into the Hager brand architecture or reorganized within the group. Hager operates manufacturing sites in multiple countries and has a particularly important production and development presence in France and Germany. Obernai is described as the group's largest production location and is also home to Hager Forum, a training and meeting venue opened in 2015. The company invests heavily in product development, with research directed toward energy efficiency, electromobility, intelligent buildings, connected homes and electrical safety. Its collaboration with Audi on connecting the e-tron electric vehicle with Hager's home energy management system illustrates the group's effort to link building infrastructure, energy storage and electric mobility. The company converted to the European Company legal form, Hager SE, in 2007. It remains privately held and family-owned rather than publicly traded. Hager reported approximately 13,000 employees and revenue exceeding EUR 3.2 billion for 2023 in the referenced material; these figures should be treated as period-specific rather than as permanent company characteristics. In 2024, the group received EcoVadis Platinum recognition and opened a high-power testing laboratory in Obernai. In 2025, it announced an investment in automated production lines at its Blieskastel site. Hager's present positioning combines dependable electrical infrastructure with smart-building controls, energy management, security and solutions for the transition to electrified buildings. Some former product brands, including Tehalit, Weber, Lume, Klik, Flash, Polo, Ashley & Rock and Logisty, have been consolidated into the Hager brand architecture or reorganized within the group. The group's major business areas are energy distribution and metering, cable management, switches and building control, and security systems. Its offerings include distribution boards, enclosures, circuit-protection equipment, wiring accessories, cable ducts, electrical switches, intercoms, alarms, energy-management systems, inverters and battery-storage solutions.

History

Hager Group was founded in 1955 in Ensheim, Saarland, by Peter Hager and his sons Oswald and Hermann. The company was created during a period when Saarland had distinctive economic links with France and limited access to the wider German market. The founders therefore pursued a deliberately cross-border strategy. In 1959 they established Hager Electro in Obernai, Alsace, giving the young business a direct presence in France and a base for later expansion. During its first decades, Hager concentrated on electrical installation components for homes and other buildings. In 1966 it introduced systematic training for electricians, helping establish a long-term relationship with professional installers. The company patented a modular rotary fuse carrier in Germany in 1968 and in France in 1970. Around the same period it launched the Hager-Rapid-System, an early mass-produced distribution-board system for the French market. These developments helped move the company from individual components toward modular, standardized installation systems. Hager added new product capabilities during the 1970s and 1980s. The mini Gamma enclosure was launched in 1976, and the company began producing residual-current circuit breakers in Germany in 1982. A new production facility and high-bay warehouse were opened in Blieskastel. During the 1980s Hager increasingly presented itself as a complete service provider for building electrical installations and established additional European sales operations, including in Switzerland and the United Kingdom. International expansion accelerated from the mid-1990s. The group developed distribution channels in the United Arab Emirates, Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, China, Australia and New Zealand. It also used acquisitions to broaden its portfolio and local-market reach. Lumetal of Italy, a distribution-board manufacturer, was acquired in 1992. Tehalit, a German cable-management specialist, joined the group in 1996. In 1998 Hager acquired French electronic-timer maker Flash and British manufacturer Ashley & Rock, whose products were made to British standards. These deals expanded Hager beyond its earlier focus on mechanical switching and German-centered installation products. Further acquisitions followed in Central Europe and the security sector. Polish company Polo was integrated in 2002. Swiss Weber AG and French manufacturer Atral were acquired in 2004. Atral’s activities supported security brands including Diagral, Daitem and Logisty. Hager entered Brazil in 2006 through the acquisition of Eletromar, opened a plant in Pune, India, in 2008, and began developing a new Eletromar production site in Brazil the same year. Electraplan Solutions was acquired in 2009. In 2010 Hager acquired Berker, a German producer of switches and switch systems, adding a strong specialist brand to the group. The corporate structure changed in 2007, when Hager became a European Company and adopted the designation Hager SE. The group continued consolidating former product brands under Hager while maintaining selected specialist labels. Elcom, a German intercom manufacturer, became part of the group in 2012. Hager Forum opened in Obernai in 2015 as a training and meeting center for employees, customers and partners. By this period, the company’s scope included energy distribution, cable management, switches, building control, communications and security. Energy transition and connected buildings became increasingly important. In 2018 Hager acquired E3/DC, a German developer of inverters and energy-storage systems. The same year it began work with Audi on integrating an e-tron vehicle with Hager’s home-energy-management system, linking vehicle charging with household energy use. Hager’s broader group portfolio later included energy-management companies Eficia and Advizeo, as well as cable-management and conduit businesses such as Bocchiotti, Iboco and Pmflex. The group has continued to invest in manufacturing and technical capabilities. In 2022 it reportedly committed €15 million to increase plastic-parts capacity at Bischwiller through new injection-molding presses. In 2024 it inaugurated the Taranis high-power testing laboratory at Obernai, designed to generate very high short-circuit currents for product testing and certification. Reference material also reports EcoVadis Platinum certification in November 2024. In July 2025 Hager announced an €18 million investment in two automated production lines at Blieskastel. Hager remains family-owned, privately held and internationally active, with its modern identity centered on electrical infrastructure, smart buildings, security and energy management. Hager's origins lie in Saarland, a region whose post-war economic position made cross-border access especially important. In 1955, Peter Hager and his sons Oswald and Hermann established Hager oHG, elektrotechnische Fabrik, in Ensheim. The young company concentrated on electrical installation products and sought to serve both the German and French markets. Its first foreign subsidiary, Hager Electro S.A., was founded in Obernai, Alsace, in 1959. During the 1960s and 1970s, Hager built its technical and commercial base. The company introduced systematic electrician training in 1966, helping it develop long-term relationships with professional installers. A modular rotary fuse carrier was patented in Germany in 1968 and France in 1970. Around the same period, Hager launched the Hager-Rapid-System, an early mass-produced distribution-board system for the French market. The mini Gamma enclosure followed in 1976. In 1982, Hager began producing residual-current circuit breakers in Germany and opened a new production facility with a high-bay warehouse in Blieskastel. In the 1980s, Hager broadened its identity from a component manufacturer to a supplier of complete electrical-installation solutions. It established sales companies in additional European markets, including Switzerland and the United Kingdom. From the middle of the 1990s, the group extended its commercial network into the United Arab Emirates, Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, China, Australia and New Zealand. Acquisitions became a central part of the group's development. Lumetal of Italy, a distribution-board manufacturer, joined the group in 1992. Tehalit, a German specialist in cable management and cable ducts, was acquired in 1996. In 1998, Hager added the French electronic-timer company Flash and the British manufacturer Ashley & Rock, whose products followed British standards. Polo in Poland was integrated in 2002, followed by Swiss company Weber AG and French manufacturer Atral in 2004. Atral expanded Hager's security activities and supplied brands including Diagral, Daitem and Logisty. Hager entered Brazil through the acquisition of Eletromar in 2006. It established a plant in Pune, India, in 2008 and laid the foundation for a new Eletromar production site in Brazil later that year. Electraplan Solutions was acquired in 2009. In 2010, the group acquired Berker, a German producer of switches and switch systems. Elcom, a German family company specializing in intercom systems, became part of Hager in 2012. These additions helped Hager cover more of the building's electrical and communications infrastructure, from incoming power distribution to user-facing controls and security. The company became Hager SE in 2007 after adopting the European Company legal form. In the following years, it increasingly focused on connected buildings, energy efficiency, electromobility and distributed energy. Its 2018 acquisition of E3/DC brought inverters and energy-storage capabilities, while a collaboration with Audi explored the integration of electric vehicles with a home energy management system. Hager also expanded its portfolio through the integration of additional specialist companies, including Pmflex in the electrical-conduit field. Hager's international manufacturing footprint includes 22 sites in 10 countries, with local production used to address market-specific installation requirements. Obernai is identified as its largest production site. The Hager Forum, opened there in 2015, provides a venue for training, meetings and engagement with customers, partners and employees. The group has also invested in production capacity and testing infrastructure. In 2022, it announced a EUR 15 million investment in plastic-parts capacity at Bischwiller. In 2024, it inaugurated Taranis, a high-power testing laboratory at Obernai, and received EcoVadis Platinum recognition. In July 2025, it announced an EUR 18 million investment in two automated production lines at Blieskastel. The group remains family-owned and privately held. Its current business combines the original Hager electrical-distribution franchise with cable management, switching, building automation, security, energy storage and energy-management solutions. The company's stated development priorities include intelligent building technology, electromobility, energy efficiency and product safety.
