Overview
Hailo Technologies is an Israeli semiconductor and artificial-intelligence company focused on bringing high-performance, energy-efficient AI inference to edge devices. Founded in Tel Aviv in 2017, the company designs dedicated processors and accelerator products intended to execute machine-learning workloads locally rather than sending all data to remote cloud infrastructure. Its technology is aimed at applications that require fast response times, privacy, low latency, or reduced connectivity and power requirements, including autonomous vehicles, intelligent security cameras, industrial systems, autonomous mobile robots, and other embedded devices. The company was established by Orr Danon, Avi Baum, Hadar Zeitlin, and Rami Feig. After Feig's death, Danon became chief executive officer and Baum became chief technology officer. Hailo's early financing began with a seed round in 2017, followed by Series A financing in 2018 and 2019. The company's commercial and technical profile became more prominent with the unveiling of the Hailo-8 AI accelerator in 2019. Hailo-8 was designed for edge inference and was positioned as an alternative to relying exclusively on general-purpose processors or centralized cloud computing for computer-vision and other deep-learning applications. Hailo expanded its financing substantially through a $60 million Series B round in 2020 and a $136 million Series C round in 2021. The 2021 financing valued the company at approximately $1 billion and gave Hailo unicorn status. Investors and participants identified in public company history include Poalim Equity, Gil Agmon, Zohar Zisapel, ABB Technology Ventures, Latitude Ventures, and OurCrowd. The company subsequently broadened its product range beyond its original accelerator architecture. Its portfolio includes the Hailo-15 family of AI vision processors, Hailo-8L entry-level accelerators, Hailo-8 Century PCIe cards, and the Hailo-10 generative-AI acceleration module for edge devices. Hailo also develops software intended to make its hardware usable by application developers and system integrators. The Hailo AI Software Suite supports the conversion and deployment of deep-learning models and includes a collection of pre-trained models. A separate Vision Processor Software Package supports development for the Hailo-15 family. Together, the hardware and software offerings are designed to serve original-equipment manufacturers, camera and robotics developers, automotive technology suppliers, and embedded-AI developers. The company operates internationally from its Tel Aviv headquarters and maintains seven international offices, with activity across North America, Europe, and Asia. Its products have received industry recognition, including an Edge AI and Vision Product of the Year award for the Hailo-8 in 2021 and a CES 2024 Picks Award for the Hailo-15. In 2024, Hailo expanded its Series C financing with an additional investment and introduced Hailo-10, extending its strategy into generative-AI acceleration at the edge. Leadership and governance also developed during this period: Rakefet Russak-Aminoach became chairperson in May 2024, while Yaron Garmazi was appointed CFO and COO in June 2024.
History
Hailo Technologies was founded in Tel Aviv in February 2017 by Orr Danon, Avi Baum, Hadar Zeitlin, and Rami Feig. The founders pursued a specialized approach to artificial-intelligence computing: rather than depending solely on cloud servers or broad-purpose processors, Hailo would develop dedicated silicon capable of running machine-learning inference directly on edge devices. This model is relevant to applications such as cameras, vehicles, robots, and industrial equipment, where response time, power consumption, privacy, and network availability can be important constraints. The company began raising external capital in June 2017 with a $3.5 million seed round. Series A financing followed on June 5, 2018, with a further investment announced on January 22, 2019. Together, the two Series A-related financings totaled $12.5 million and $8.5 million respectively according to the company's published history. After the death of co-founder Rami Feig, Orr Danon became chief executive officer and Avi Baum became chief technology officer. On May 14, 2019, Hailo unveiled the Hailo-8 AI accelerator. The product became the central early expression of the company's edge-computing strategy, targeting neural-network inference in embedded systems. Hailo subsequently raised $60 million in Series B financing on March 5, 2020. On October 12, 2021, it announced a $136 million Series C round led by Poalim Equity and Gil Agmon, with participation from existing and other investors including Zohar Zisapel, ABB Technology Ventures, Latitude Ventures, and OurCrowd. The financing valued Hailo at about $1 billion, making it a privately held technology unicorn. Hailo's external profile grew alongside its product development. Hailo-8 was named an Edge AI and Vision Product of the Year winner in the Edge AI Processors category in 2021. Governance also expanded that year: Mooly Eden, a former senior vice president at Intel, joined the board, while Eyal Waldman, co-founder and former chief executive of Mellanox Technologies, joined the advisory board. The product portfolio broadened in the 2020s. Hailo-15 AI vision processors were launched in March 2023, extending the company's focus on intelligent imaging. In August 2023, Hailo introduced Hailo-8L entry-level accelerators and Hailo-8 Century high-performance PCIe cards, offering products for different performance and integration requirements. The company also developed the Hailo AI Software Suite, which supports model development and deployment and includes pre-trained models, as well as a Vision Processor Software Package for Hailo-15-based applications. In 2024, the Hailo-15 received recognition as a CES 2024 Picks Award winner. In April, Hailo announced an additional $120 million investment as an expansion of its Series C financing and launched Hailo-10, a generative-AI acceleration module intended for edge devices. These developments indicated an expansion from conventional computer vision and inference toward newer generative-AI workloads. In May 2024, Rakefet Russak-Aminoach became chairperson, followed by the appointment of Yaron Garmazi as chief financial officer and chief operating officer in June. Hailo remains a private Israeli technology company headquartered in Tel Aviv, with seven international offices and operations across North America, Europe, and Asia.
