Overview

Hammer Records (also known as Hammer Music, and since 2021 as H-Music) is a Hungarian independent record label founded in 1998 by the editors of the Hungarian edition of Metal Hammer magazine. It is the largest domestic label specializing in rock and metal music, releasing albums by numerous Hungarian bands each year and distributing foreign labels' material in Hungary. The label operates its own shop, the Hammer Zenebarlang in Budapest's 11th district. In 2021 it became independent from the publisher of HammerWorld magazine and consolidated its sublabels under the H-Music name, also launching its own magazine in both online and print formats. Its sublabels include Nail Records (extreme metal), Edge Records (popular or experimental rock), Hadak Útja Kiadó (patriotic music), and Sólyomfészek Kiadó. Bands on its roster have included A.M.D., Dalriada, Depresszió, Junkies, Moby Dick, Omen, Ossian, Remorse, and Road.

History

Hammer Records was founded in 1998 by the editors of the Hungarian Metal Hammer magazine under the name Hammer Music. The label exclusively handles albums by rock and metal bands. Its first release was a live album by Ossian, a band that had reunited after a four-year hiatus. Since then, it has released albums by countless Hungarian bands every year and distributes foreign labels' material in Hungary. It plays an important role in popularizing the genre as the largest domestic label specialized in the style. The label's own shop is the Hammer Zenebarlang in the 11th district of Budapest. In 2021, it continued operating as an independent company from the publisher of HammerWorld magazine, and by merging its sublabels, it adopted the name H-Music. It also publishes its own magazine in both online and print formats. Its sublabels include H-Music (the stable of the most popular Hungarian heavy metal bands, formerly Hammer Music), Nail Records (extreme metal bands), Edge Records (popular or experimental rock bands), Hadak Útja Kiadó (patriotic music bands), and Sólyomfészek Kiadó. Bands associated with H-Music include A.M.D., Dalriada, Depresszió, Junkies, Moby Dick, Omen, Ossian, Remorse, and Road. Sólyomfészek Kiadó includes Egészséges Fejbőr and Igazságos Fejbőr.
