Handtmann

Handtmann Unternehmensgruppe is a family-owned German industrial group headquartered in Biberach. According to its official website, it has been a family-run company for over 150 years and operates through five business areas with autonomous management structures, spanning mechanical engineering, food technology, the automotive industry and plastics technology. The group reports 4,700 employees and revenue of EUR 1.4 billion in 2025. It is led by Co-CEOs Markus Handtmann and Valentin Ulrich, with a Handtmann Holding and an advisory board at the top.

Handtmann traces its origins to 1873, when the bell founder and master mechanic Christoph Albert Handtmann founded a brass foundry in Biberach in the historic 'Bachmühle' building on Ehinger-Tor-Platz, starting with the production of fittings for fruit brandy distilleries, brewhouses and beer storage barrels. The company's history is divided into five generations: Christoph Albert Handtmann (1873-1918), Karl Handtmann (1919-1953), Arthur Handtmann (1953-1998), Thomas Handtmann (1998-2023), and Markus Handtmann & Valentin Ulrich (2023-today). Over more than five generations, the family business developed from a small craft brass foundry into a globally active technology company with 4,700 employees. The Handtmann family's roots reach back to the 16th century, when the mason Michael Handtmann moved from Memmingen to Biberach. Today the group operates through five business areas with autonomous management structures, led by a Handtmann Holding with an advisory board.
