Overview

Hannabach is presented on its official website as a business with more than 140 years of experience in string making. Its own account traces the beginning to 1869, when Anton Hannabach founded the "Anton Hannabach, Musikinstrumenten- und Saitenfabrikation" musical instruments and string manufacturing company in Eger, Bohemia. The family was among those attracted to the growth of Schönbach (now Luby), described as a cradle of Bohemian and German instrument making. Anton's son Karl took over management of the family business in 1910. After the Second World War, Karl's sons Arthur and Adolf left Schönbach for Bavaria, settling in Bubenreuth and Egglkofen respectively; Adolf, with his wife Elisabeth and son Werner, specialized in string making in Egglkofen and had to rebuild the business from scratch.

History

According to the official Hannabach website, the business has more than 140 years of experience in string making. Its account places the beginning in the town of Luby, formerly Schönbach, in the foothills of the Ore mountains (Erzgebirge), described as the cradle of the Bohemian and German instrument making tradition dating back more than 400 years. The Hannabach family was among those attracted by the rapid growth of Schönbach and settled there to make a living from the music trade. In 1869 Anton Hannabach founded the "Anton Hannabach, Musikinstrumenten- und Saitenfabrikation" musical instruments and string manufacturing company in Eger, Bohemia; besides trading high quality string instruments, Anton began making fine instrument strings by hand. Anton's son Karl took over management of the family business in 1910; he married Rosalia Müller, and two of their five children, Arthur and Adolf, continued the family tradition. After the Second World War, Arthur and Adolf left Schönbach for Bavaria, settling in Bubenreuth and Egglkofen respectively. Arthur specialized in guitars, and his son Gerold Karl Hannabach is described as a well known and respected guitarmaker in Bubenreuth. Adolf, with his wife Elisabeth and son Werner, started in Egglkofen with a specialization in string making, rebuilding the business from scratch with only their acquired knowledge and tradition.
