Overview

Salzburger Bauernherbst is a brand of the Salzburg state board of tourism. Since 1996, the Salzburg region has been dedicated each year from mid-August to the end of October to the Bauernherbst, a season of harvest, enjoyment and sociable festivals. The 31st Salzburger Bauernherbst is celebrated under the motto "G'sungen und G'spielt" by 77 places with around 2,000 festivals and events. The programme includes Almabtriebe, village and farm festivals, Platzkonzerte, Musikantenstammtische, Heimatabende, craft demonstrations, yodelling courses, and musical walks and themed trails. Selected economic partners accompany the Bauernherbst, including Stiegl Brauerei zu Salzburg, Raiffeisen Salzburg, Gössl Salzburg and SalzburgMilch.

History

The first Bauernherbst was opened on 25 August 1996 in Obertrum am See with a large festival; 14 places took part, and a year later there were already 63 places and 1,200 events. In the third year, a sapling of the centuries-old "Salzburger Birne" was planted in each Bauernherbst place, a rescue action for a nearly extinct fruit variety that focused attention on sustainability, custom and preservation. In 2000, international artists transformed the city of Salzburg into a colourful alpine landscape for "kunst + kuh"; 34 of the decorated art cows were auctioned, raising nearly 145,000 euros for charitable purposes. In 2002, around 600 unique Bauernherbst flags were designed. Since 1996, the Salzburg region has been dedicated each year from mid-August to the end of October to the Bauernherbst. The 31st Salzburger Bauernherbst is celebrated under the motto "G'sungen und G'spielt" by 77 places with around 2,000 festivals and events.
