History

Hayashi Noen was founded in 1911 when Hayashi Goichi settled at Kikyogahara in Shinshu and began cultivating fruit trees, including grapes, on a 4.5-hectare orchard. Wine production began in 1919 with the first wine, "Taka no Hane Budoshu." In 1920, production of sweet fruit wine and brandy started, and the vineyard was expanded to 7 hectares. In 1931, production of 100% grape juice began. In 1951, Merlot vines were brought from Yamagata Prefecture and planted at Kikyogahara, the first in Nagano Prefecture. In 1986, the brand "Goichi Wine" was trademark-registered. In 1987, the business was reorganized from a sole proprietorship into Hayashi Noen Co., Ltd., with Hayashi Mikio appointed Representative Director. In 1993, noble rot was discovered on estate Chardonnay, leading to the production of botrytized wine. In 2010, a new 5-hectare estate was opened in Kakizawa, and Merlot was planted the following year. In 2011, the farm celebrated its 100th anniversary. In 2021, Hayashi Mikio became Representative Director and Chairman, and Hayashi Shuichi became Representative Director and President.
