Overview

Healcerion Co., Ltd. is a South Korean medical device company founded in February 2012 and headquartered in Seoul. It is best known for developing the SONON series, which the company describes as the world's first wire-free ultrasound diagnostic device. The company's stated mission is to bring ultrasound diagnostics directly to the patient's location — 'Going to meet you, wherever you are' — by making imaging portable, wireless, and easy to transport. Healcerion's core product line includes the SONON 300C, a portable wireless ultrasound launched in 2014; the SONON 300L, a linear-type wireless ultrasound launched in 2016; and the SONON 500L, a vehicle-mountable ultrasound diagnostic imaging device designed for vans, trailers, and other vehicles. The devices use a linear array transducer with an operating frequency of 4–13 MHz and are powered by Healcerion's image-processing technology. The company also lists a SONON 300L and SONON 300C as current products, with additional models marked 'Coming Soon.' The company has received recognition from several international bodies. In 2018 it was selected as a WHO innovative medical device and designated as a global small-sized strong company, and it received a Minister of Health and Welfare Award commendation. In 2020 it secured Russian COVID-19 procurement orders and was selected as a World Bank COVID-19 procurement item. In 2022 it obtained FDA certification for the SONON 500L and achieved MFDS medical device certification for the same model. Healcerion has also established an Artificial Intelligence & Platform Research Institute (AGI) and has raised multiple rounds of capital from investors including Softbank and Intervest. Healcerion operates in South Korea and internationally, with product certifications in Canada and the United States, and has pursued overseas business cooperation with KT. The company remains privately held and continues to develop portable ultrasound technology for point-of-care and mobile clinical applications.

History

Healcerion Co., Ltd. was established in February 2012 in South Korea. The company was founded on the belief that ultrasound diagnostic devices should be portable and accessible, leading to the creation of what it describes as the world's first wire-free ultrasound, the SONON. This innovation aimed to reform medical techniques that had been tied down for decades. In 2014, Healcerion launched the SONON 300C, a portable wireless ultrasound diagnostic device. That same year, the company completed its second round of capital increase, raising KRW 4 billion from investors including Softbank. It also won the Gold Award at the iENA Nuremburg 2014 idea and invention exhibition in Germany and obtained KFDA/GMP certification in December. In 2016, Healcerion launched the SONON 300L, a linear-type wireless ultrasound diagnostic device, and acquired Canada product certification. The company was designated as a technologically innovative small and medium-sized business (Innobiz), entered an overseas business cooperation with KT, earned a commendation from the Seoul City Mayor, was named to the Red Herring Global top 100, and acquired world-class product certification. In November 2016, it completed its fourth round of capital increase, raising KRW 6.3 billion from Intervest and others. In 2018, Healcerion was selected as a WHO innovative medical device and designated as a global small-sized strong company. It received a Minister of Health and Welfare Award commendation and won the IR52 Jang Young-sil Award. In 2020, the company secured Russian COVID-19 procurement orders and was selected as a World Bank COVID-19 procurement item. It also established the Artificial Intelligence & Platform Research Institute (AGI) in September 2020. In 2022, Healcerion achieved MFDS medical device certification for the SONON 500L in February and obtained FDA certification for the same model in April. The SONON 500L is an ultrasound diagnostic imaging device designed to be mounted on vans, trailers, and other vehicles for easy transport to different locations. The company continues to develop its SONON series, with additional models marked as 'Coming Soon' on its website.
