Overview

Heavyocity Media, Inc. is an American cinematic music software company and collective of professional composers and sound designers. Founded in New York City in 2003 as Heavy Melody Music by Dave Fraser and Neil Goldberg, the company initially built a reputation composing music and sound effects for advertising, television, video games, and film clients including Paramount, Universal, Electronic Arts, the NFL, and the Discovery Channel. Over time, the founders shifted their focus toward developing their own line of virtual instruments, launching the Heavyocity brand of VST and Kontakt-based libraries. Heavyocity's mission is to create world-class virtual instruments for today's modern composers and sound designers. Rather than offering sprawling, all-encompassing libraries that require sifting through thousands of patches, the company emphasizes curated, signature "go-to" elements that supercharge creativity and enhance productivity. Its product catalog spans percussion, orchestral instruments, vocals, hybrid keys and synths, guitars and bass, and effects. Flagship products include Damage 2, an epic percussion library with over 40,000 samples of massive ensembles and aggressively damaged hybrid elements; Gravity 2, a collection of tonal rhythmic pedals, transitions, textures, and impacts; NOVO Modern Strings, a hybrid orchestral strings instrument recorded at the famous Eastwood Scoring Stage at Warner Bros. Studios; Oblivion, an aggressive collection of analog-sourced rhythmic pedals, basses, leads, and modular ambiences; and Convergence, a collision of modern scoring power and iconic analog character with over 130 analog sources and more than 480 presets. The company also produces the Foundations series and Brickwall Drums, among other titles. Heavyocity operates as a private company headquartered in New York City and sells its products worldwide through its official website and authorized resellers. It maintains an active presence in the composer community through news, reviews, interviews, and educational content such as The Brief. The company describes itself as "Inspiring the Future of Cinematic Sound," positioning its tools for film, television, and video game scoring.

History

Heavyocity Media, Inc. traces its origins to Heavy Melody Music, a New York City-based music and sound design company founded in September 2003 by Dave Fraser and Neil Goldberg. The two had met in 1989 while studying at Berklee College of Music. After graduation, Fraser became the touring keyboardist for Gary Richrath (REO Speedwagon), playing over 200 North American shows, while Goldberg joined Epic Recording artist Annihilator on guitar, recorded the "Set The World on Fire" album, and toured Europe. They reunited in 1995 at Sonalysts Studios/Power Station New England, where they created music and sound effects for clients including AOL, ESPN, Jose Cuervo, and the US Armed Forces. By 1997, they were composing for a nationally syndicated cartoon series and numerous Discovery Channel programs; Goldberg also served as recording engineer on albums for Edgar Winter, T.M. Stevens, and Jonatha Brooke. In 1998, they joined Sunday Productions in New York City, spending five years on dozens of national commercial campaigns for blue-chip companies and beginning to focus on audio for video games. By September 2003, they had launched Heavy Melody Music and recruited composer/sound designer Ari Winters, a multi-instrumentalist with Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Entertainment Technology from Carnegie Mellon University, to round out the creative team. As Heavy Melody Music, the team worked as composers and sound designers for clients such as Paramount, Universal, Electronic Arts, the NFL, the Discovery Channel, and Gillette. Over time, the founders channeled their scoring and sound design expertise into developing their own virtual instruments, and the Heavyocity brand emerged as a cinematic music software company. Heavyocity describes itself as a collective of pro composers and sound designers with a mission to create world-class virtual instruments for today's modern composers and sound designers. Its philosophy is to provide cutting-edge, inspiring instruments and sounds that supercharge creativity, formatted to enhance productivity, and to offer perfect "go-to" signature elements quickly and effectively rather than sprawling, all-encompassing libraries. The company's product line grew to span percussion, orchestral, vocals, hybrid keys and synths, guitars and bass, and effects. Notable releases include the Damage series of epic percussion, Gravity 2, NOVO Modern Strings (recorded at the Eastwood Scoring Stage at Warner Bros. Studios), Oblivion, Convergence, Foundations Staccato Strings, and Brickwall Drums. Heavyocity continues to operate from New York City, selling worldwide through its website and authorized resellers, and engaging the composer community through news, reviews, interviews, and content such as The Brief.
