History
Heberger was founded in 1948 by master mason Jakob Heberger in Schifferstadt, Rhineland-Palatinate. In the immediate post-war years the young company focused on clearing war damage and carrying out repairs and renovations. Its commitment to construction quality and reliability quickly became a hallmark, and the rapid reconstruction and economic boom of the 1950s provided a favourable environment for growth. In 1965 the company was continued by the founder's sons, Egon and Berthold Heberger, who maintained the customer-focused approach that had driven its early success. By 1974 Heberger had begun to win contracts worth millions, and revenue rose steadily. The company invested in its future even as the construction crisis of the 1970s hit the industry; Heberger weathered the market consolidation with consistently good results, its strengths in quality, reliability and partnership proving decisive. International expansion began in 1974, when Heberger started its foreign business. After building a sparkling wine cellar in France, from 1975 the company took on several major contracts in Iraq and across the Near and Middle East. The 1980s and 1990s brought engagements on the Iberian Peninsula and in the Czech Republic, Poland, Hungary and Croatia. In subsequent years Heberger planned and built large-scale projects in Spain, Portugal and Mexico for international customers. Today the Heberger Gruppe consists of the main administration in Schifferstadt, national branches including Rhein-Main in Mainz, and 18 subsidiaries and sister companies in Germany and abroad. These include Heberger System-Bau GmbH and its precast concrete plant in Neulußheim, Heberger Immobilien GmbH in Schifferstadt, Heberger CZ s.r.o. in Prague, Heberger Española S.A. in Granada and Mallorca, Heberger Portuguesa LDA in Portugal, Heberger Romania S.R.L. in Bucharest, Bautra-Bau GmbH in St. Ingbert, Car-Management GmbH in Delitzsch, Finsterwalder Bau-Union GmbH in Sonnewalde, Leipzig and Berlin, Franz Josef Meixler GmbH & Co. KG in Mainz, Hellweg Badsysteme GmbH & Co. KG in Schifferstadt and Prague, KBS inženýrská projektová kancelář s.r.o in Prague, Markstahler+Barth GmbH in Karlsruhe, Petry Stahlbau in Alterkülz, Prefa Praha a.s. in Prague, and Polensky & Zöllner Abu Dhabi W.L.L. in Abu Dhabi. The group employs about 1,350 people and generates annual revenue of approximately €300 million.
