Heliatek

Heliatek is a German company that develops organic photovoltaic materials and manufactures organic solar films. It was spun off in 2006 from TU Dresden and the University of Ulm. The company built its first mass-production facility at its headquarters in Dresden, Germany, and its HeliaSol product is described on its website as the world's only commercially available and IEC-certified organic solar solution. HeliaSol films are presented as extremely light, flexible and fully sustainable, applied to surfaces without drilling, and backed by a certified 20-year performance guarantee.

Heliatek was spun off in 2006 from TU Dresden and the University of Ulm, with founding members Karl Leo, Martin Pfeiffer, Bert Männig, Peter Bäuerle, Jens Drechsel and Harald Eggers. From 2007 to 2011 the company conducted research and development in organic photovoltaics covering materials, performance and process development, and produced a proof of concept for the technology's future viability. From 2012 to 2017 it moved its headquarters to its current location on Treidlerstraße, built and commissioned a research production line, and started its first pilot projects with partners. Since 2018 it has been building a second production facility for series manufacturing of organic solar films with a production capacity of 1 million m² per year; series manufacturing was commissioned in 2019, and in 2021 the first organic solar film, HeliaSol, was brought to market. The company states that it has developed organic photovoltaic materials from the ground up and built the first mass-production facility at its headquarters in Dresden, Germany.
