Henry Boot is one of the UK's leading land, property development and home building businesses, transforming land and spaces since 1886. Listed on the London Stock Exchange since 1919, the group comprises Hallam Land, HBD, Stonebridge Homes, Banner Plant and Road Link, operating across the UK and employing over 400 people. It focuses on three key markets: urban development, industrial and logistics, and residential.

In 1886, Henry Boot started his namesake business with a single handcart, following a seven-year joinery apprenticeship and over twenty years of practical experience. The son of a farmer from the Sheffield district of Heeley, he quickly grew the business and moved into large-scale public works and housing projects. His son Charles became a partner at an early age and, on the outbreak of the First World War, headed the company's efforts in obtaining Government contracts, building navy camps, bases and hospitals across the UK. By 1914, transport had increased to 20 horses and carts and six mechanically propelled lorries. In 1919, Henry Boot became the first home builder to be listed on the London Stock Exchange. Within two years of becoming a public company, it operated from Sheffield, London, Paris, Barcelona and Athens, undertaking construction of harbours, underground railways, waterworks and drainage systems throughout Europe. During the inter-war period from 1919 to 1939, Henry Boot constructed over 80,000 houses, outpacing any other contractor in the UK. Henry retained an active interest until his death in 1931.
