History
Hentrich & Hentrich has specialized exclusively in Jewish themes, with about 60 new releases a year and more than 800 backlist titles. Since 1982, the name of Gerhard Hentrich (1924–2009), the Berlin printer and publisher, has been connected to a commitment against forgetting and repression, through the knowledgeable publication of books on exile research and National Socialism. The publishing house's first book was Witnesses in Stone, which simultaneously constituted the first volume of the series The German Past and which remains a standard work to this day. First as the Hentrich Edition and since 1998 under the name of Hentrich & Hentrich, countless victims of the Nazi regime have had their names and a respectful commemoration by subsequent generations restored. Since 1 January 2010, Dr. Nora Pester is the publisher and owner of Hentrich & Hentrich Verlag. The established series Jewish Miniatures is being carried forward and expanded under the editorial guidance of Dr. Hermann Simon. At the same time the publishing house is addressing, for a new and greater readership, the core content areas of Jewish culture, Jewish life and contemporary history through new series and publications. Since 1 September 2018 the publishing house has its head office in Leipzig. Since July 1, 2023, Hentrich & Hentrich Verlag is located in Capa-Haus, one of Leipzig's most important memorials to National Socialism and the liberation in 1945.
