Heroal

Heroal (stylised as heroal) is a German family-owned industrial group headquartered in Verl, North Rhine-Westphalia, with the parent company heroal – Johann Henkenjohann GmbH & Co. KG. Founded in 1874 by Johann Henkenjohann as a woodworking business, the company evolved into one of Europe's leading suppliers of aluminium profile systems for roller shutters, roller doors, windows, doors and facades, and describes itself as the world market leader for aluminium roller shutter profiles. Its portfolio also covers insect and sun protection, carports, folding and sliding shutters, and complete aluminium systems for new builds and renovation. All products are manufactured in Germany at three sites: Werk I in Verl, and Werk II and Werk III in Hövelhof. The company employs more than 800 people and is certified to DIN EN ISO 9001. Heroal sells exclusively through a network of certified specialist partners rather than directly to end consumers, and supports customers with digital tools, funding advice and energy-efficiency services. Sustainability is a stated priority, reflected in its membership of the A/U/F aluminium recycling initiative, the use of bio-based insulating webs and an on-site combined heat and power plant.

Heroal traces its origins to 1874, when Johann Henkenjohann started a business manufacturing various wooden products. In 1950 his grandson, also named Johann Henkenjohann, took over the craft workshop. A key technical milestone came in 1966 with the development of the first roll-formed and foam-filled aluminium roller shutter profile. In 1971 the company began developing and distributing aluminium profile systems for windows, later extending to doors. In 1980 the first large powder-coating facility for these products was inaugurated in Hövelhof, and from 1993 the product portfolio was expanded to include facade systems. In 1989 the company adopted the legal form of a GmbH & Co. KG. In 2000 it moved into its current administrative building in Verl, and in 2011 Werk III in Hövelhof opened as a warehouse and logistics centre. Since 2015 heroal has also been active in the sun protection business segment. The company remains family-owned and does not publish revenue figures; according to Kleffmann-Verlag, revenue in 2000 was approximately €127 million. Heroal manufactures exclusively in Germany using a largely in-house-developed machine park and operates its own testing centre certified by the Institut für Fenstertechnik (ift).
