Overview
HETEL (Heziketa Teknikorako Elkartea) is a Basque association of vocational training centres, founded in 1987. It is rooted in the three provinces of the Basque Autonomous Community: Araba, Bizkaia, and Gipuzkoa. The association was created to coordinate private-initiative vocational training schools and to promote and improve vocational education. Initially composed mainly of La Salle Christian schools, over the years it has integrated other types of centres. HETEL centres are part of the network of comprehensive vocational training centres of the Basque Plan for Vocational Training. The association's goals include exchanging experiences and know-how, and jointly participating in and developing projects that offer quality and pedagogical, organisational, technical, and technological innovation. Its activity principles include leading innovation in technology and pedagogy, promoting communication and mutual aid among associated schools and between them and society, and fostering relations and cooperation with vocational training centres and companies in other autonomous communities and other countries. HETEL publishes an annual magazine called HETELkaria. In 2019, HETEL created a new working team dedicated to internationalisation strategies and projects, aiming to facilitate the development of internationalisation strategies in vocational training centres and encourage their participation in international projects and activities, in line with the V Basque Plan for Vocational Training.
