Overview
HI-TECH for Gamers GmbH is an Austrian provider of prebuilt desktop PCs, gaming PCs, configurable PCs, sim racing equipment and gaming accessories, based in Traun near Linz. The company traces its origins to 1986, when it began selling computers during the heyday of the Commodore 64, initially serving business customers such as universities and companies before opening up to private end customers in 1995 as the internet made the PC increasingly attractive to households. Over the following decades it evolved from classic retail store sales into a full e-commerce operation, launching a limited online offering in 1999 and a fully fledged webshop in 2007. The brand is positioned around gaming and performance computing, with a strong emphasis on price-performance value for the customer — a principle the company says has been central since its very first computer sale. Its product range covers gaming PCs, laptops, configurable systems, sim racing PCs and bundles, and gaming accessories. The company also highlights a long-standing specialization in video editing and professional hardware, a focus that emerged from around 2000. HI-TECH for Gamers sells primarily in Austria and Germany, and offers free delivery to all EU member states, with shipping to Switzerland and Liechtenstein handled with the applicable local VAT. Its marketing leans heavily on financing options — including 0% financing campaigns for Germany via easyCredit, Klarna invoice and installment purchases, Santander installment plans for Austria, and promotional discount codes — as well as on free game bundles and influencer partnerships. In 2026 the company celebrates its 40th anniversary, marking the occasion with special anniversary promotions, an event calendar spanning gaming events in Leipzig, Salzburg, Cologne and Vienna, and the launch of a new Sim Racing product category with dedicated sim racing PCs, bundles and individual components. The company remains privately held and operates from its headquarters at Johann Roithner-Straße 131 in Traun, Austria.
History
The history of HI-TECH begins in 1986, during the heyday of the Commodore 64, which at the time was considered the standard in computer gaming. The first computer the company sold had two disk drives built in, in contrast to market leader IBM, and was positioned around the best possible price-performance ratio for the customer. According to the company's own account, an IBM PC with only one disk drive carried a price of 75,000 Schilling (€4,941.75), while the first HI-TECH computer was 7,000 Schilling (€508.71) cheaper despite being technically twice as well equipped. In these early years HI-TECH primarily served business customers such as universities and companies, equipping them with hardware; the PC was not yet truly a "personal" computer and only very few households owned one. With the rise of the internet, the PC became increasingly interesting to private individuals. In 1995, the same year Internet Explorer 1.0 came to market, HI-TECH decided that because of steadily growing interest it should also supply end customers. This marked the beginning of the era of classic retail store sales. Although the web became an increasingly relevant sales platform, customers still did not fully trust it, so in 1999 the company set up an online offering with limited shopping functionality. The first fully fledged webshop followed in 2007. From around 2000, a specialization that remains very important today crystallized: professional video editing. This focus on demanding hardware for content creation complemented the company's growing gaming orientation. Over the years the brand consolidated its identity around gaming PCs, configurable systems and gaming accessories, sold primarily in Austria and Germany with free delivery across the EU and shipping to Switzerland and Liechtenstein with applicable local VAT. In 2026 HI-TECH for Gamers celebrates its 40th anniversary. The anniversary year includes special promotions for gaming PCs, an event calendar covering events such as the CAGGTUS gaming festival in Leipzig (17–19 April 2026), LEVEL UP in Salzburg (23–24 May 2026), Gamescom in Cologne (26–30 August 2026) and Game City in Vienna (October 2026), as well as promo activities with long-standing influencer partners and exclusive insights into the company. The anniversary also brings a new product category: Sim Racing, with dedicated sim racing PCs, bundles and individual components for a complete racing setup at home, including a UHD 4K Sim Racing PC aimed at sim racing and VR with maximum FPS.
