Overview
Higashi Twenty One (株式会社ヒガシトゥエンティワン) is a Japanese logistics company that traces its origins to 1944, when 13 transport firms in Osaka's Higashi-ku were merged to form Osaka Higashi Transport Co., Ltd. Over the decades it expanded from trucking into warehousing, office relocation, building delivery, business-process outsourcing and IT-related services. In 2002 it changed its name to Higashi Twenty One, listed on JASDAQ in 2005 and moved to the Tokyo Stock Exchange Second Section (now Standard Market) in 2011. In April 2025 the company transitioned to a holding-company structure and renamed itself Higashi Holdings Co., Ltd., with the operating logistics business inherited by a new Higashi Twenty One entity. The group operates nationwide in Japan through subsidiaries covering freight, 3PL, office moves, building delivery, staffing and IT services.
History
Higashi Twenty One was established in December 1944 as Osaka Higashi Transport Co., Ltd., formed by the merger of 13 transport companies in Osaka's Higashi-ku (now Chuo-ku), with capital of 2,450 thousand yen. Shortly after its founding, the company suffered severe damage from the Osaka air raids, losing most of its fleet and headquarters. After the war, it stabilized its management base with capital participation from Nippon Life Insurance Company in November 1947. In 1955 it introduced Japan's first domestically produced automatic warehouse (auto-stacker). In 1959 it acquired a Nagoya-based transport company to expand in the Chubu region. In 1968 it obtained a warehousing license and began warehouse operations in Moriguchi, Osaka. In 1977 it started parking lot operations. In 1979 it opened a Tokyo office and entered the Tokyo metropolitan area. In 1985 it changed its name to Higashi Transport Service Co., Ltd. In 1988 it launched document services with the opening of Higashi Trunk Room in Toda, Saitama. In 1989 it obtained an industrial waste collection and transport license. In 1994 it moved its headquarters to its current location in Chuo-ku, Osaka, and began customs operations at a bonded warehouse in Shiga. In 1996 it started building delivery services at Tokyo Opera City. In 2000 it obtained ISO 9001 certification at several sites. In February 2002 it changed its name to Higashi Twenty One Co., Ltd. In July 2003 it entered the nursing care equipment rental and sales business. In March 2005 it listed on the JASDAQ Securities Exchange. In June 2006 it obtained PrivacyMark certification. In September 2011 it listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange Second Section (now Standard Market). From 2016 onward it actively pursued M&A and spin-offs, including making Utotrans System Co., Ltd. a subsidiary in January 2016, Ishikawa Corporation in July 2017, establishing Transport 21 in September 2017, spinning off building delivery to FM Support 21 in April 2018, transitioning to a company with nomination committee in June 2019, making World Corporation a subsidiary in January 2020, spinning off office relocation to Higashi Office Service in October 2020, making Yamagami Transport Industry a subsidiary in February 2022, and moving to the Standard Market in April 2022.
