Overview

Hikari Food Service Co., Ltd. is a Japanese food-service company headquartered in Nakamura-ku, Nagoya, Aichi Prefecture. Founded as a corporation in December 2009, it traces its origins to the April 2008 opening of the standing-bar izakaya 'Tachinomi Yakiton Daikoku' Sumiyoshi branch. The company operates a portfolio of casual dining brands, most notably the standing-bar chain Yakiton Daikoku, the standing-sushi chain Uotsubaki, and the Yokohama-style ramen shop Kanayama-ya. Its corporate philosophy centers on creating everyday smiles and laughter through food and drink, and it aims to become the number-one standing-bar brand in Nagoya and eventually nationwide. The company has expanded steadily, reaching 20 stores in July 2016, 30 in October 2018, 40 in February 2020, and 50 in June 2021. It opened its first central kitchen in Nagoya's Nakagawa-ku in July 2010, relocated it to Nishi-ku in March 2017, and added a second central kitchen in Tsushima, Aichi, in January 2022. In February 2024, Hikari Food Service listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange Growth Market and the Nagoya Stock Exchange Next Market. As of its official website, it continues to open new locations, including a planned 'Tachinomi Dote no Daikoku' Tsubakicho branch in September 2026 and a 'Tachigui Sushi Uotsubaki' Miyako Underground Mall branch in September 2026, while also closing some older stores. The company also offers franchise opportunities, aiming for 100 stores nationwide.

History

Hikari Food Service Co., Ltd. was incorporated in December 2009, but its history began in April 2008 with the opening of the standing-bar izakaya 'Tachinomi Yakiton Daikoku' Sumiyoshi branch. The concept was simple: a small standing bar where everyday smiles and laughter could be shared over affordable grilled pork skewers and drinks. In June 2009, a second location, the Kanayama branch, opened, followed by the 'Yakiton Daikoku' Fukuromachi branch in September 2009 (later renamed Yakiton Daikoku Fukuromachi). The company was reorganized as Hikari Food Service Co., Ltd. in December 2009, and in the same month opened the Meieki West Exit branch of Yakiton Daikoku. Expansion continued through the early 2010s. In June 2010, the Inari-koji branch of Yakiton Daikoku opened, and in October 2010, the Kitasenju East Exit branch of 'Daikoku Horumon' opened. A central kitchen was established in Nakagawa-ku, Nagoya, in July 2010 to support the growing chain. In June 2011, the Sasashima branch of Yakiton Daikoku opened, and in December 2011, the first 'Tachinomi Uotsubaki' opened (now Uotsubaki Main Store). In December 2015, the 1st Hikari Building in Kanayama was completed, and three stores opened simultaneously, including the main branch of 'Yokohama Iekei Ramen Kanayama-ya'. The chain reached 20 stores in July 2016. In March 2017, the central kitchen was relocated to Nishi-ku, Nagoya. The 30-store milestone was reached in October 2018, and in November 2018, capital was increased to 20 million yen. In February 2020, the chain reached 40 stores. In March 2021, the headquarters moved to Nakamura-ku, Nagoya, and in June 2021, the 50-store milestone was achieved. In October 2021, 'Yakiniku Deluxe' Konan branch opened, and in February 2022, 'Tachigui Sushi Uotsubaki' Meieki West Exit branch opened. A second central kitchen was established in Tsushima, Aichi, in January 2022. On February 28, 2024, Hikari Food Service listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange Growth Market and the Nagoya Stock Exchange Next Market. The company continues to open new locations, including planned openings in 2026, while closing some older stores, and it actively seeks franchise partners to expand toward 100 stores nationwide.
