Overview

HL D&I Halla Co., Ltd. (HL디앤아이한라 주식회사) is a South Korean construction company and part of HL Group. Its origins trace back to Halla Resources (한라자원㈜), which was spun off in 1980 from the resources development division of Hyundai Yanghaeng (현대양행); that same year it obtained construction license No. 569. Over the following decades the company grew into a comprehensive contractor covering civil engineering, building construction, housing development, and plant/environmental engineering, and in 1990 it was renamed Halla Construction (한라건설㈜). The company's business spans roads, bridges, ports, airports, railways, and subways, as well as industrial park and residential land development, reclamation, and dredging. In the building sector it has constructed offices, commercial facilities, leisure facilities, knowledge industry centers, passenger terminals, train stations, and educational facilities. Its housing business is marketed under the Halla Vivaldi (한라비발디) apartment brand launched in 1997, and in recent years it has introduced the EFETE (에피트) brand, positioned as a lifestyle-oriented apartment product. HL D&I Halla belongs to HL Group. HL Group originated from Hyundai Yanghaeng, founded in 1962, and today operates through the holding company HL Holdings, with businesses spanning construction, automotive, and education/sports divisions. Its affiliates include HL Mando, HL Klemove, Halla Stackpole, Mando Brose, Mokpo New Port Operation, Halla Encom, Halla Development, HL EcoTech, Halla Ceragio, HL Logis&Co, Halla University, and the HL Anyang ice hockey team. Within this group, HL D&I Halla represents the construction division. In 2022 the company changed its name from Halla (㈜한라) to HL D&I Halla to align with the HL Group brand and begin a new phase of innovation. The company has set forth a vision of "innovating the familiar and challenging the unknown," with goals of health, growth, and sustainability. It has also entered non-construction fields such as distribution, logistics, and sports/leisure, and is promoting the convergence of construction and IT. Recent projects include Tower 730 in Seoul, the Hyundai Premium Outlet Songdo branch, the Halla Vivaldi complex apartments in Siheung Baegot, and the EFETE residential development at Cheongju Wolmyeong Park. In September 2025 the company decided to issue new-type capital securities worth approximately 80 billion won. The company continues to operate in South Korea and overseas markets including Asia and the Middle East.

History

HL D&I Halla's history begins in 1980, when Halla Resources (한라자원㈜) was established as an independent entity from the resource development division of Hyundai Yanghaeng, and the company obtained construction business license No. 569. In the 1980s the company undertook a range of industrial and infrastructure works, including the Pyeongtaek automobile parts and assembly plant, the Halla Cement Okgye harbor construction, the Naesan road works, and the Okgye Halla cement plant expansion. The labor union was founded in 1989. In 1990 the company changed its name to Halla Construction (한라건설㈜) and adopted the Halla Group CI. The 1990s were a period of expansion at home and abroad: the company worked on the Seoul Subway Line 3 and Busan Subway Line 2, the Gyeongbu High-Speed Railway, the Seohaean Expressway, Incheon International Airport passenger terminal and runway works, and overseas projects such as the Bishah cement plant in Saudi Arabia, a cement plant in Negeri Sembilan, Malaysia, and the Lae cement plant in Papua New Guinea. In 1994 the company listed its shares, and in 1995 it established HECU (Halla Engineering & Construction Corp., USA) in Los Angeles. In 1997 it introduced the Halla Vivaldi apartment brand, which became a major residential brand. In the 2000s the company continued to win large civil and building contracts, including the Hyundai Department Store Daegu branch, the Bundang Line, the Incheon Cheongna Halla Vivaldi, the Songdo International City infrastructure, the Ulsan New Port north breakwater, the Han River restoration project, the Honam High-Speed Railway, and the Dongtan logistics complex. It received awards such as the Hankyung Housing Culture Grand Prize and the Maeil Business Newspaper livable apartment award. In 2022 the company changed its name from Halla Corporation (㈜한라) to HL D&I Halla, aligning with the HL Group identity and signaling a new phase of innovation. The company has since pursued projects such as Tower 730 in Seoul, Hyundai Premium Outlet Songdo, the Siheung Baegot Halla Vivaldi Campus, and the Cheongju Wolmyeong Park EFETE development. In September 2025 it decided to issue subordinated bonds worth about 80 billion won.
