Overview
Hobsons Brewery is a local independent British brewery that produces award-winning regional ale in cask, keg and bottle. It was founded in the Shropshire market town of Cleobury Mortimer by Nick Davis and his parents in 1993, and describes itself as one of the leading and most respected brewers in the region. Its beers include Best Bitter, Town Crier, Old Henry, Twisted Spire, Dhustone Stout and Old Prickly, alongside merchandise and Oldfields Cider.
History
The conception of Hobsons Brewery was down to Nick Davis and his Dad Jim, who decided to start a brewery in the late eighties when Jim was running a pub in Somerset. Hobsons officially started in 1993 as a family business, founded in the Shropshire market town of Cleobury Mortimer by Nick Davis and his parents, after four months searching for premises, plant machinery and time spent researching local tastes. The first brew around Easter time was created and thrown; luckily Brew no. 2 was a success. The first sellable batch of Hobsons Best was sold to a handful of local pubs and the company still brews Best today. The name was inspired by a local amateur-dramatics play of "Hobsons Choice"; Henry Hobson was a fictitious character and formed the original logo with his trademark hard hat. Hobsons' second beer, Old Henry, was launched in 1994. Over the years, the brewery's proudest moments include being crowned CAMRA Champion Beer of Britain with its Champion Mild in 2007 and SIBA Best Green Business in 2010 and 2021.
