Hochtaunus-Kliniken

Hochtaunus-Kliniken is a German hospital group whose facilities include Klinik Bad Homburg, Klinik Königstein and Klinik Usingen. Its Bad Homburg site traces its origins to an Allgemeines Krankenhaus opened in 1851; the institution later became the Kreiskrankenhaus Obertaunus in 1928 and an Akademisches Lehrkrankenhaus in 1979. The group states a commitment to patient orientation and patient safety, employee orientation, responsibility and leadership, continuous quality improvement, and economic operation.

The history of the Bad Homburg hospital reaches back to the middle of the century before last. On 5 May 1851, the Allgemeine Krankenhaus at Elisabethenstraße 10 (a former Hofreite) opened with initially 15 beds. Despite expansion to 40 beds, the institution soon proved too small and was closed. A new building was erected on the Taunusstraße site of today's hospital and handed over to its purpose on 25 October 1904 with 78 beds. In 1928 the then Obertaunuskreis took over the Allgemeine Krankenhaus, which from then on bore the name 'Kreiskrankenhaus Obertaunus' and had to be extended in 1928 and 1930 because of rising population. A further building wing was completed in 1941. After the Second World War the existing capacities again proved too small, so the Kreistag of the Obertaunuskreis once more decided on a generous expansion of the hospital in two construction phases; in 1961 the first (today's C-Bau) and in 1966 the second (today's B-Bau) extension building were inaugurated. Because of modernization measures carried out in the 1970s, the conditions were created to make the hospital an Akademisches Lehrkrankenhaus of the universities of Frankfurt am Main and Gießen in 1979. With the commissioning of the new operating theatre wing in 1985, the capacity of the house was considerably increased. In summer 1991 the newly designed entrance hall with a cosy café, a kiosk and a hairdressing salon was inaugurated. With the conversion of six-bed rooms into two- and one-bed rooms, the needs...
