Hoepfner Brewery

Hoepfner is a brewery that has brewed beer in Baden since 1798. Its brewing site is the historic Hoepfner Burg in Karlsruhe's eastern district, where its brewmasters continue regional brewing tradition and produce Karlsruhe classics such as Hoepfner Pilsner. The brewery's history began in 1798 when pastor's son Karl Friedrich Gottlieb Hoepfner opened a small brewery with an attached inn in Liedolsheim near Karlsruhe. In 1850 Jakob Friedrich Hoepfner bought the Schmieder brewery on Lange Straße (today Kaiserstraße 14), and in May 1851 opened his new tavern brewery there. In 1898 Kommerzienrat Friedrich Hoepfner put the Hoepfner Burg into operation; the building became the brewery's trademark and remains its brewing site and company headquarters.

In 1898 Kommerzienrat Friedrich Hoepfner put the Hoepfner Burg into operation; the representative yet functional new building housed one of the most modern brewing facilities of its time, became the brewery's trademark, and remains its brewing site and company headquarters.
