History

Honda Aircraft Company was founded in 2006 as the latest venture in Honda's drive to enhance the freedom of mobility. The HondaJet concept originated in 1997, when Michimasa Fujino, the future leader of the HondaJet project, conceived the "Over-The-Wing Engine Mount" configuration and sketched the first HondaJet concept on the back of a calendar page; the sketch received internal approval, formally launching the HondaJet research project. In late 2003, an experimental HondaJet equipped with Honda HF118 engines completed its initial flight test at the Piedmont-Triad International Airport in Greensboro, North Carolina. The experimental HondaJet made its public world debut at the 2005 Experimental Aircraft Association event. In 2026, Honda Aircraft Company associates celebrated 20 years since the company's founding, and the company announced the first delivery of the HondaJet Elite II in Brazil.
