Hongler Kerzen

Hongler Kerzen AG is a Swiss candle manufacturer headquartered in Altstätten in the canton of St. Gallen. It describes itself as the oldest candle manufactory in Switzerland and is considered one of the oldest candle manufacturers in the world. The company has been family-owned for over 300 years and more than nine generations, with the Hongler name first appearing in 1703 in the account book of the parish of Berneck, St. Gallen. Its history is closely tied to the church, and the production of liturgical candles remains a specialty to this day. Products are available for purchase online and are also supplied to specialist retailers, restaurants, and private customers. Hongler Kerzen is a private, family-owned company. It employs a team of around 20 to 30 people, according to its own website. The company moved to a new modern production facility on Bahnhofstrasse in Altstätten in 2005. It was renamed Hans Hongler AG to Hongler Wachswaren AG in 2002 and then to Hongler Kerzen AG in 2010. Each year from November, the company hosts a Christmas exhibition, and it has participated in local events such as the "Lichtblicke" weekend.
