Overview

Hoshimitsu (株式会社星光) is a Japanese company that creates 'wakaru' (understanding) through advertising and information systems. It was founded in 1947 and is headquartered in Osaka. The company operates in two business fields: advertising promotion (traffic/outdoor advertising, original advertising, sales promotion) and passenger information systems (passenger information display devices, sign systems).

History

Hoshimitsu was founded in 1947 when it donated pendulum clocks to stations in Higashi-Osaka, starting as a clock advertising company. In 1950, it established Hoshimitsu Honsha and later reorganized as Kabushiki Kaisha Hoshimitsu in 1959. The company developed various products such as the A-type clock advertisement (1949), the light-character destination indicator (1954), and the film-type indicator (1963). It became the Kansai general agent for Solari of Italy in 1965 and installed flap-type indicators on Kintetsu and other railways. In 1970, it installed a flap-type destination indicator at Osaka Station of Japanese National Railways. The company has been involved in sign systems for subways and other projects.
