History

HOSOKAWA YOKO was founded in 1933 as a cellophane wholesaler. In 1946 it opened Hosokawa Shoten (a bookstore), and in 1948 it introduced letterpress printing equipment to begin printing and processing cellophane packaging. In 1949 it was registered as a corporate organization, Hosokawa Yoko Co., Ltd., with its head office in Sotokanda, Chiyoda-ku. In 1951 its printing division was separated and made independent as Tokyo Cellophane Printing Co., Ltd., with its head office in Nishi-Ochiai, Shinjuku-ku. In 1953 it introduced its first gravure printing machine. In 1954 Hosokawa Shoten closed and a bag-making machine was imported from Germany. In 1956 it established Nakazawa Plate Making in Kameido, Koto-ku, and began gravure plate making. In 1960 it opened an Osaka sales office and fully launched machinery system sales. In 1970 it moved its head office to Nibancho, Chiyoda-ku (its current location). In 1971 Tokyo Cellophane Printing Co., Ltd. moved from Nishi-Ochiai, Shinjuku-ku to Miyoshi-machi, Iruma-gun, Saitama Prefecture (the current Saitama Miyoshi Plant), and Iiyo Kako was established. In 1975 it established an extrusion lamination plant at the Saitama Miyoshi Plant. In 1976, following the legalization of GMP by the Ministry of Health (now the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare), it set up a GMP-compliant room at the Saitama Miyoshi Plant of Tokyo Cellophane Printing Co., Ltd., and began dry lamination. In 1978 the second plant of the Saitama Miyoshi Plant was completed. In 1980 it first exhibited at TOKYO PACK. In 1982 the third plant of the Saitama Miyoshi Plant was completed.
