History
Howden Group's official U.S. pages state that it began as a one-room office in 1994 and, thirty years later, had become one of the world's top 10 insurance brokers. In 1994, David Howden won the firm's first client with a promise of exceptional service. Between 1995 and 2004, it opened its underwriting arm DUAL in Madrid, followed by Howden Iberia, and by its 10th anniversary had reached India and Australia, with $26.8m global revenue and 250 colleagues. From 2005 to 2014, it opened in the Middle East, Asia, and the U.S.; it opened in Dubai in 2008, entered Asia in 2011 starting with the acquisition of Asia's largest independent retail broker, began serving the U.S. market as a London and Bermuda-based wholesaler through distribution partners, expanded DUAL into the U.S. in 2013, and added offices in Colombia and Brazil the next year. By the end of that decade, Howden Group recorded $268m in global revenue with 2,000 colleagues in 37 countries. In 2014, it set up the Howden Foundation. The pages also state that over a decade of underwriting through DUAL and deep distribution partnerships gave it the foundation to do more in the U.S., which it did in 2025.
