HSS Engineers Berhad, through its subsidiaries ("HEB Group" or "the Group") and associates, is principally involved in the provision of engineering and project management services including engineering design, construction supervision, project management, recurring income and digital transformation services. The Group has a total workforce of more than 850 staff, of which more than half are engineers of various disciplines, and possesses a combined experience of more than 80 years across sectors including urban infrastructure, transportation planning, roads and highways, railways and metro systems, water resources and supply, waste management, building and structures, and power generation, and has diversified into telecommunication and digital technology. The Group operates from 8 main offices, based in Kuala Lumpur (3 offices), Sabah and Sarawak in Malaysia, and other locations.

In 1984, Kuna Sittampalam and the late Shantha Kumar founded HSS with the ambition of building a consulting firm that would transform the engineering landscape of Malaysia. Tuan Haji Hashbudin Bin Hashim, a former employer of Kuna and Shantha, gave them time off to pursue their business idea and became the "H" of HSS Consult Sdn Bhd, while "SS" stood for Shantha Kumar and Sittampalam. After struggling for a year, the founders received their first project offer, using a small space in the workplace of Dato' Sri Yap Chong Lee as a temporary HSS office. The company was restructured to HSS Integrated in 1988, exceeded 100 staff in 1989, served as Principal Consultant for the RM10 billion KLIA in 1992, reached a turnover of RM50 million in 1994, registered with MS ISO 9001 in 1995, opened offices in India, Philippines and South Africa in 1996, exceeded 1000 staff in 1997, established a new corporate HQ in 2000, and was restructured to HSS Engineering in 2002.
