History
The site of huma eleven in Vienna-Simmering was first used for retail in the 1970s, when Munich wholesaler Jost Hurler opened the Hurler Magazin, also known as HuMa-Markt. The land had previously belonged to the Kaiserebersdorf Landwehr-Artilleriekaserne, and some of the former barracks buildings still stand nearby. In 1987, the consumer market was converted into a shopping center, with various anchor tenants serving the daily needs of the local population. In 2012, a decision was made to modernize the center. The old shopping center was demolished in 2014, and the foundation stone for the new project was laid. On 3 March 2016, huma eleven opened with 60 shops, restaurants, and service businesses. The expansion building was completed on 28 September 2017, increasing the total to 90 shops. The center was developed by Jost Hurler Beteiligungs und Verwaltungs GmbH & Co. KG and is operated by SES Spar European Shopping Centers. It features architecture inspired by its location near the Danube, including water features of about 200 m². The center spans 50,000 m² and offers 2,000 free parking spaces.
