History
Éditions Hurtubise was founded in 1960 by Claude Hurtubise at the dawn of the Quiet Revolution. He wanted to promote and disseminate Quebec and French-Canadian literature with the greatest authors of the time: Anne Hébert, Jacques Ferron, Gabrielle Roy, Fernand Dumont, Guy Rocher, and several others. Over time, the house developed school and literary sectors, youth and adult. Today a component of Groupe HMH, Hurtubise has adopted a resolutely literary editorial line, both in its books for youth and those for adults (fiction, historical novel, biography, essay). The school line is only represented by the essential grammars of the 'Bescherelle' collection. In 1988, Éditions Hurtubise, in association with Leméac Éditeur, founded Bibliothèque québécoise, a publishing house that reissues Quebec literary texts in pocket format.
