Overview

IAS Itzehoer Airservice GmbH is a German charter airline headquartered in Hohenlockstedt and based at the Itzehoe/Hungriger Wolf airfield. The company was founded in 2013 and received its Air Operator Certificate (AOC) from the German Federal Aviation Office (Luftfahrt-Bundesamt, LBA) on 1 September 2017, with licence number D-387-EG. This certification authorises commercial passenger, mail and/or cargo transport under visual and instrument flight rules, including bad-weather and night operations, within the entire ICAO EUR region (Europe), as well as specialised operations such as parachute dropping and aerial photography. The airline operates Cessna 208 Caravan aircraft equipped with Pratt & Whitney Canada turboprop engines. These single-engine turboprops are versatile and can be configured for up to nine passengers, up to one tonne of cargo, or parachute jumping. Their performance characteristics make them suitable for short take-off and landing runways and mountainous terrain. The fleet is based at Itzehoe/Hungriger Wolf, and as of April 2025 consisted of two aircraft. IAS Itzehoer Airservice provides charter services for passengers and freight across Europe. Between March and November 2021, it operated flights on behalf of the virtual airline MeerExpress, connecting Dinslaken/Schwarze Heide airfield near Essen to the East Frisian islands with triangular routes via Norderney to Juist. MeerExpress ceased all flights in November 2021 and was dissolved on 17 January 2022. The company remains active, offering a range of aerial services from its northern German base.

History

IAS Itzehoer Airservice was founded in 2013 as a German aviation company. On 1 September 2017, the German Federal Aviation Office (Luftfahrt-Bundesamt, LBA) issued the company an Air Operator Certificate (AOC) with licence number D-387-EG, granting it the operating licence as an air carrier. This certification allowed the company to conduct commercial passenger, mail and/or cargo transport under visual and instrument flight rules, including bad-weather operations, within the entire ICAO EUR region (Europe). The legal basis for such operations had come into force across Europe on 2 March 2017 with the addition of the CAT SET-IMC regulation to EU Regulation 965/2012, which permitted single-engine turboprop commercial operations under instrument meteorological conditions. Between March 2021 and November 2021, IAS Itzehoer Airservice operated flights on behalf of MeerExpress, a virtual airline founded in 2020 and based in Datteln. These flights connected Dinslaken/Schwarze Heide airfield near Essen to the East Frisian islands, with triangular routes via Norderney to Juist. In November 2021, MeerExpress ceased all flights, and the company was dissolved on 17 January 2022. As of April 2025, the fleet of IAS Itzehoer Airservice consisted of two aircraft. The company continues to provide charter services for passengers and cargo, as well as specialised operations such as parachute dropping and aerial photography, from its base at Itzehoe/Hungriger Wolf airfield.
