Overview

The Ibero-American Foundation of Cultural & Creative Industries (FIBICC, Fundación Iberoamericana de las Industrias Culturales y Creativas) is a Spanish non-profit organisation dedicated to the development of culture and the arts in Spain, Europe, South America and Africa. It was created by a team of cultural and creative management professionals in 2011 and formally inscribed in the Spanish Register of Foundations by Order ECD/2215/2012 of 10 September 2012. Its stated purpose is to foster the cultural industry by supporting anyone who wishes to innovate and undertake cultural entrepreneurship internationally, and it has supported more than thirty cultural and creative entrepreneurship projects, with over a thousand students attending its courses. FIBICC operates as a foundation rather than a commercial company, but it functions as a brand in the cultural and creative industries sector, offering training programmes, research, publishing, consultancy and cultural venue management. Its activities span more than seventy countries. Among its best-known initiatives is La Harinera, a former flour factory in Pedro Muñoz (Ciudad Real) that the foundation transformed into a cultural centre, museum of the flour industry of Castilla-La Mancha and open-air concert space with capacity for 1,200 people. The foundation also runs a youth hostel in Pedro Muñoz, included in the Spanish Network of Youth Hostels (REAJ), and has developed projects such as Fábrica de la Memoria, focused on women's history, and the Instituto de Gestión Cultural y Artística (IGECA), described as the first business school in this field. Its educational portfolio includes a Master's in Management and Direction of Cultural Industries run for ten editions with the Universidad Europea Miguel de Cervantes, an International Master in Music Management with the Universidad de Deusto, and an Official University Master's in Direction and Management of Cultural and Creative Industries. It has also published books such as 'Las Industrias Culturales y Creativas en Iberoamérica, evolución y perspectivas' and a collection on the industrial heritage of La Harinera. The foundation has been presided over since its beginnings by the Spanish cultural manager and university professor Santiago Arroyo Serrano, and has had directors including María José Muriel Santurino, Marina Pascual Galdeano and Maria Luz Balado Prieto. It is recognised as a reference institution for advice on cultural entrepreneurship and is listed as one of the Cultural Entrepreneurship Resources of the Spanish Government's Institute of Youth (Injuve).

History

The Ibero-American Foundation of Cultural & Creative Industries (FIBICC) was founded in 2011 by a team of professionals in cultural and creative management. Its aim was to foster the cultural industry by supporting innovation and entrepreneurship in the field at an international level. On 10 September 2012, it was formally inscribed in the Spanish Register of Foundations by Order ECD/2215/2012, giving it official non-profit status. From its early years, the foundation combined training, research and direct cultural project management. It supported more than thirty cultural and creative entrepreneurship projects and provided courses to over a thousand students. Its objectives included research and development of technological supports, strengthening education in the cultural industry sector, promoting international cooperation in artistic development, stimulating and disseminating the cultural economy, and influencing the social economy. A major milestone was the development of its own cultural centre in Castilla-La Mancha, La Harinera, in Pedro Muñoz (Ciudad Real). The foundation restored a former flour factory and converted it into a cultural centre, a museum of the flour industry of Castilla-La Mancha and an open-air concert venue with capacity for 1,200 people. La Harinera became a reference for industrial heritage tourism and hosted concerts and exhibitions by artists such as Rozalén and La Maravillosa Orquesta del Alcohol. Eventually the Ayuntamiento (town council) of Pedro Muñoz acquired and took over the project, and the foundation donated the historical archive of La Harinera to the town. The foundation also runs a youth hostel in Pedro Muñoz, included in the Spanish Network of Youth Hostels (REAJ), and has carried out projects on women's history such as Fábrica de la Memoria, which produced exhibitions including 'Mujeres en la Primera Guerra Mundial' to show the role of women in the conflict. It has awarded scholarships to young artists and given workshops for project development. It appears in the Ibero-American Portal of Cultural Management and supports entrepreneurial projects such as the award for the 'Best university initiative in Cultural Entrepreneurship' at the University of Granada. In the educational field, FIBICC has run a Master's in Management and Direction of Cultural Industries for ten editions with the Universidad Europea Miguel de Cervantes, an International Master in Music Management with the Universidad de Deusto, and an Official University Master's in Direction and Management of Cultural and Creative Industries. It created the Instituto de Gestión Cultural y Artística (IGECA), described as the first business school and studies centre in this field, and the Cultup programme of support for cultural entrepreneurship, recognised by Revista Emprendedores as one of the best training programmes in cultural entrepreneurship and business creation, carried out in collaboration with the Ministry of Employment and Social Security of the Spanish Government. Other projects include Youth & Heritage in Quixote Land (Erasmus+), Cultural & Creative Entrepreneurship (Erasmus+), Communication and Culture (Erasmus+), Up Skilling Cultural Managers (Leonardo da Vinci), the Centro de Iniciativas Culturales y Artísticas de Tomelloso (CICATO), Club Creativo ULPGC in the Canary Islands, Acerca Digital for the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID), a training programme for cultural enterprises in Castilla y León, the Take Part Project under the Youth in Action Programme, the Revista Iberoamericana de Cultura y Pensamiento Monograma (published seven issues, included in directories such as ERIH, in collaboration with the University of Burgos and the University of Wuppertal until January 2019), the Quiroga.
