Overview

Ibosim Craft Beers (officially Ibiza Beer Company SL) is a small craft brewery founded in 2013 and located in Port des Torrent, in the municipality of Sant Josep de sa Talaia, on the island of Ibiza. Like other craft breweries in the Catalan-speaking regions, its fermentation vessels are visible from the bar area of the same premises. Its creation can be placed within the so-called "craft revolution," which began on the Iberian Peninsula at the start of the 21st century and reached the Balearic Islands shortly afterwards. Other craft beer brands in the Balearics include Cervesa des Pla, Beer Lovers and Sullerica in Mallorca, and Illa and Graham Pierce in Menorca. The brand has always been linked to the island of Ibiza. The name "ibosim" refers to the Punic toponym meaning 'island of the god Bes'. The first commercial beers of the brand were IBZ Summer Pale Ale and later Posidònia Blonde and Garrova Porter, with carob from Ibiza (made in collaboration with Cerveses Popaire, from Blanes). In 2014 they made a Weissbier for the first time on commission from the Ibiza Beer Fair, which is the germ of the current Isla Blanca Weissbier. In 2015 they introduced an Amber Ale with rosemary and oranges of Belgian inspiration, Rosemary Belgian Ale, and presented a gluten-free beer at the Beer Fair. That same year they produced the first Indian Pale Ales (IPAs) in collaboration with Tro Ales, As Cervesa Artesana, Cafè Meke and Popaire, with names of Hindu gods, which provoked complaints and a demand from religious leader Rajan Zed to withdraw them. In 2016 a special edition of the Porter came out, high-gravity and aged in oak barrels for 6 months, Imperial Porter. Coinciding with the brand's third anniversary, the first "brewpub" in Ibiza, Ibosim Brewhouse, opened in Port des Torrent. In 2017 and 2018 new styles were introduced, such as an American Brown Ale, which would evolve into Revolution Brown Ale (2019), a Tripel (Hoppy Belgian Tripple), and a "strawberry IPA" in collaboration with the Italians Birrificio Emiliano (Bologna) and Birrificio Lambrate (Milan). Currently the regular line (available both in summer season and winter in Ibiza) is set at seven beers: two IPAs, a Porter, a Weissbier, a Belgian, a Blonde and a Pale Ale.
