Overview
Icon Group Ltd (Hebrew: אייקון גרופ בע"מ) is an Israeli public company engaged in the import, distribution and sale of Apple computing and communications products in Israel, as well as providing laboratory services for Apple products and selling accessories from other manufacturers. Its main office is located in Ramat HaHayal, Tel Aviv, and it operates a logistics center and repair laboratory in Petah Tikva. The company is the official importer of Apple products in Israel, though it does not have exclusivity; another official importer is C-Data, and the KSP retail chain received an Apple import license in 2022. Icon Group operates through three wholly owned subsidiaries: iDigital Store Ltd (founded May 2008), which markets and sells Apple products and accessories and provides repair services under the iDigital brand; iDigital Solutions Ltd (founded March 2015), which sells Apple products to academic institutions; and iDigital Smart Home Ltd (founded July 2016), which sells Apple and third-party products through stores under the iDigital Smart Home and iDigital goodiz brands. Since March 2022, Icon Group also holds 85.3% of Visual D.G Ltd, a distributor of computing products (PCs and data center computers) from manufacturers including Lenovo, ASUS and HPE, as well as cybersecurity products from Radware, Trend Micro and others. The company was founded in March 2007 as iDigital Line Ltd by partners from the Pitango venture capital fund, led by Chemi Peres, Aharon Mankovsky, Zeev Binman and Tzachi Hillel. It was renamed iDigital Ltd in June 2007 and acquired Yeda Computers and Software in October 2007, gaining the concession to sell Apple products in Israel for 25 years. In December 2009, the company changed its name to Icon Group Ltd. In April 2017, Sky Investment Fund acquired 65% ownership. In December 2021, the company held its initial public offering on the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange, raising about 150 million shekels at a company valuation of approximately 775 million shekels. Controlling shareholders after the IPO remained Sky Investment Fund and Pitango Fund. About two years after the IPO, the company lost about half its value due to declining demand for computers after the COVID-19 period and the loss of its unique status in marketing Apple products in Israel. Icon Group's management has seen several changes. Eran Tor served as CEO from founding until 2013, followed by Ayelet Tzarfati-Rozen. Since June 2023, the company has had two co-CEOs: Davidi Fiamanta, who replaced Ayelet Rozen Tzarfati, and Roni Israeli, who continues as CEO of the distribution activity. The chairman is Zvi Yochman.
History
Icon Group Ltd was founded in March 2007 as iDigital Line Ltd by partners from the Pitango venture capital fund, led by Chemi Peres, Aharon Mankovsky, Zeev Binman and Tzachi Hillel. In June 2007, the company changed its name to iDigital Ltd. In October 2007, it acquired Yeda Computers and Software, which held the concession to sell Apple products in Israel for 25 years. Prior to the acquisition, Yeda Computers and Software had faced criticism for lack of investment in marketing, support and service for Apple products in Israel. Until then, Apple computers had a tiny market share in Israel (less than one percent of the PC market) due to high prices, poor Hebrew support and a lack of applications adapted for Israel. Upon receiving the concession, the company began operating servers to support Hebrew for iPod players. In January 2008, it launched an online store for selling Apple products in Israel. In September 2008, it launched the first Hebrew version of the macOS operating system, developed by the company in cooperation with the Israeli Mac user community. The version was an update to the operating system available to users as a patch that could be downloaded for free from the iDigital website. The update included Hebrew localization of components installed in the operating system, which was approved by Apple worldwide. In December 2009, the company changed its name to its current name, Icon Group Ltd. Vy Partners Fund, part of the Viola Group, invested in the chain in 2009. In April 2017, Sky Investment Fund acquired 65% ownership of the company. In December 2021, the company's shares were first issued on the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange, raising about 150 million shekels. Half of the amount went to the company's treasury and half to its owners and some Icon managers. The IPO was completed at a company valuation of about 775 million shekels, lower by more than 20% than the 1 billion shekels the company aimed for at the beginning of the IPO process, and according to which it hoped to raise about 200-300 million shekels. Controlling shareholders after the IPO remained Sky Investment Fund and Pitango Fund. About two years after the IPO, the company lost about half its value as a result of a decline in demand for computers after the COVID-19 period; another reason was the loss of its unique status regarding the marketing of Apple products in Israel. Since its founding, the company has mainly been engaged in the import, distribution, marketing and sale of Apple products (Mac computers, iPhone series smartphones, iPad tablets, Apple Watch smartwatches), as the official importer of Apple products in Israel, and in operating a repair laboratory for Apple products. The sale of Apple products is done through the iDigital marketing chain owned by the company and through other stores. The company does not have exclusivity in the distribution of Apple products in Israel. Another official importer is C-Data, and the KSP store chain, which was a customer of Icon Group, received a license in 2022 to import Apple products to Israel. In March 2022, the company expanded its activities to additional computing fields with the acquisition of control of Visual D.G Ltd, which is engaged in the distribution of computing products (personal computers and data center computers) from various manufacturers, including Lenovo, ASUS and HPE, and cybersecurity products from Radware, Trend Micro and others. Regarding management, Eran Tor served as CEO from the company's founding until 2013. Ayelet Tzarfati-Rozen was appointed as his replacement. Starting from June 2023, the company has two co-CEOs: Davidi Fiamanta, who replaced Ayelet Rozen Tzarfati, and Roni Israeli, who continues in his role as CEO of the distribution activity. The chairman of the company is Zvi Yochman.
