History

ILF Consulting Engineers was founded in 1967 by Pius Lässer as an engineering office in Innsbruck, Austria. The firm's early work included oil and gas contracts for the Transalpine (TAL) Crude Oil Pipeline and water projects such as the Dornbirn Wastewater Treatment Plant. In 1969, Adolf Feizlmayr joined to form the ILF partnership, and an office was opened in Munich, Germany. During the 1970s, ILF expanded its project portfolio significantly. It secured contracts for the expansion of the TAL Pipeline, the Arlberg Road Tunnel (14 km), the Grafendorf Compressor Station, the Iraq–Turkey Pipeline from Kirkuk to Iskenderun (1,000 km), the Voigtei–Barenburg Liquid Sulphur Pipeline, the Bauchi Commercial Vehicle Plant in Nigeria, and the Riyadh Water Transmission System from Jubail to Riyadh (500 km). A new office was opened in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and the company won a contract for the Brenner Base Tunnel. In the 1980s, ILF continued to grow internationally. It worked on the Hannover–Würzburg High-Speed Railway Line in Germany, opened an office in Lagos, Nigeria, and secured contracts for the Jubail–Riyadh Water Transmission System Line C, the Etzel Gas Storage Project, the Tafna–Oran Water Transmission System in Algeria, and dams in Algeria. An office was also opened in Washington DC, USA. The 1990s and 2000s saw further expansion and diversification. ILF continued to execute complex infrastructure projects worldwide, building on its expertise in energy, water, transportation, and industry. The company established itself as a trusted partner for governments and private clients, emphasizing independence and technical excellence. In recent years, ILF has focused on sustainability and the energy transition. It publishes annual sustainability reports and actively contributes to projects in renewable energy, climate protection, and environmental conservation. The ILF Group now operates through more than 45 offices on six continents, with over 3,700 employees. It remains privately owned by the founding families, ensuring its independence. The company celebrated its 55th anniversary and continues to shape the future of engineering and consulting.
