Overview

ImmuneSensor Therapeutics is a clinical-stage biotechnology company focused on developing novel medicines that target the cGAS-STING pathway to modulate the innate immune system. Based on discoveries from the research of 2024 Lasker Basic Medical Research Award winner Dr. Zhijian "James" Chen, the company is pioneering a differentiated approach with cGAS inhibitors intended to suppress inflammation and autoimmunity when the immune system is overactive. It was founded in 2014 based on seminal research conducted in Dr. Chen's laboratory at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, and has built on in-licensed intellectual property from UTSW. The company is advancing a growing pipeline of orally available small molecule cGAS inhibitors with first- and best-in-class potential for inflammatory and autoimmune diseases.

History

ImmuneSensor Therapeutics was founded in 2014 based on the seminal research conducted in the laboratory of Dr. Zhijian "James" Chen at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. In 2012, Dr. Chen's laboratory discovered the cyclic GMP-AMP synthase (cGAS) enzyme and its secondary messenger, cyclic GMP-AMP (cGAMP), a discovery published in Science that spawned scientific interest and subsequent research into the role of the cGAS-STING pathway in innate immunity through recognizing dsDNA in the cytosol. The company has built on in-licensed intellectual property from UTSW and is focused on developing a pipeline of novel orally available small molecule cGAS inhibitors with first- and best-in-class potential to address inflammatory and autoimmune diseases. Dr. Chen was awarded the 2024 Albert Lasker Basic Medical Research Award for the discovery of the cGAS enzyme.
