Overview

Indigo TV (Ukrainian: Індиго TV) was a Ukrainian nationwide television channel that formed part of the Media Group Ukraine media conglomerate, ultimately owned by Rinat Akhmetov's SCM Holdings. It was created in 2014 as a replacement for the channel Kinotochka, with the National Television and Radio Broadcasting Council of Ukraine approving the licence changes on 15 October 2014. On 20 October 2014, Kinotochka rebranded as Indigo TV, shifting its concept to a science and educational format with film screenings. The channel held a licence for satellite and digital terrestrial broadcasting in the MX-5 multiplex. Indigo TV's programming consisted of foreign-produced programmes and series, as well as shows that had previously aired on the channels Ukraina and NLO TV. On 2 June 2020, it began broadcasting in high definition (HD). Following the Russian invasion of Ukraine, from 24 February to 17 April 2022 and again from 12 to 21 July 2022, the channel broadcast the United News information marathon around the clock, initially with its own logo and from 28 February 2022 with the logo of its sister channel Ukraina 24; no advertising was aired. From 18 April to 11 July 2022, the channel resumed independent broadcasting with a revised schedule, removing Russian programmes. On 11 July 2022, Rinat Akhmetov announced the cessation of the television channels and print media of Media Group Ukraine and SCM's exit from the media business, citing the adoption of the 'de-oligarchization law'. All licences held by the channels were to be transferred to state ownership; the media group later clarified that only licences issued by the National Council were transferred to the state, while the channels' assets would be sold off. The next day, 12 July, all channels of the media group ceased independent broadcasting and began transmitting the United News telethon. On 22 July 2022, Indigo TV ceased broadcasting entirely. In 2021, its audience share was 0.5% with a rating of 0.06% (Industrial Television Committee data, audience 18-54 in cities of 50,000+, 20th place among Ukrainian channels).
