Overview
InfoSphere is a corporate internet service provider (ISP) brand operated by NTTPC Communications, Inc., a Japanese information and communications technology company within the NTT Group. The service was launched in January 1995 as an internet connectivity offering and has since evolved into a comprehensive suite of business network services. While it originally served both individual and corporate customers, the consumer-facing portion was integrated into NTT Communications' OCN service in August 2002, after which InfoSphere focused exclusively on the corporate market. The brand provides a wide range of services tailored to business needs, including standard internet connectivity, high-speed access via FLET'S ADSL, FLET'S Hikari, and FLET'S ISDN, as well as wide-area Ethernet and Mega Data Net connections. It supports fixed IP addressing and domain acquisition through the "Nazukete Net" service. For enterprise networking, InfoSphere offers IP-VPN, internet VPN, wide-area Ethernet, and inter-cloud connectivity to public clouds such as AWS and Azure. Security services include firewall construction and management, DNS security (Cisco Umbrella), secure web gateway, single sign-on, and endpoint security. Hosting services are provided under the WebARENA brand, and mobile access supports FOMA and AIR-EDGE, including flat-rate data plans and secure remote access solutions. InfoSphere is positioned as a reliable, stable corporate internet service with strong fault tolerance. Its parent company, NTTPC Communications, was established in 1985 as a joint venture between Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation and Logic Systems International, Inc. (later Logic, Inc.). The company became a subsidiary of NTT Communications in 1999 and has been wholly owned by NTT Communications since November 2002. NTTPC Communications is headquartered in Minato-ku, Tokyo, with additional offices in Osaka and Nagoya. The InfoSphere brand remains an active part of NTTPC's service portfolio, marketed alongside other offerings such as Master'sONE and WebARENA.
History
InfoSphere was launched in January 1995 by NTTPC Communications, Inc. as an internet connection service. NTTPC Communications itself was established in September 1985 as a joint venture between Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation (NTT) and Logic Systems International, Inc. (later renamed Logic, Inc.). The company began offering a commercial personal computer communication network called "NTTPC Network" in November 1986 and started handling Cisco multiprotocol routers in 1993. In 1995, alongside the launch of InfoSphere, NTTPC also began handling products from Cascade Communications (later Alcatel-Lucent), Ascend Communications (later Alcatel-Lucent), Fore Systems (later Ericsson), and Xylan (later Alcatel-Lucent). In April 1996, NTTPC provided network services for Microsoft Network (MSN) in Japan, and in July 1996 launched the IP-VPN service "NNCS". The hosting service "WebARENA" was introduced in March 1997. Following the reorganization of NTT in July 1999, NTTPC's shareholders became NTT Communications Corporation and Logic, Inc. In 2002, two significant changes occurred: in July, InfoSphere added a mobile-compatible fixed IP address assignment service, and in August, the individual-oriented InfoSphere service was integrated into NTT Communications' OCN, allowing NTTPC to specialize in corporate ISP business. In November 2002, NTT Communications became the sole shareholder of NTTPC. Throughout the 2000s, NTTPC expanded its service portfolio under the InfoSphere umbrella and related brands. In 2003, it launched the database ASP "DB BOSS" and the shared hosting service "WebARENA Suite2". In 2004, it introduced the IP-VPN service "Secure Internet VPN" and the communication management solution "Top Cruise". In 2005, the VPS service "WebARENA SuitePRO" was launched, and the Kachidoki Data Center was opened. In 2006, the total solution "Master'sONE" began, along with the medical industry-specific VPN service "IP-Members" and the total security management service "Security BOSS". In 2007, the overlay network service "IP-WARP" was introduced. In 2008, the shared hosting service "WebARENA SuiteX" and mobile services under Master'sONE were launched. In 2009, the headquarters moved to its current location in Nishishinbashi, Minato-ku, and the Monzen-Nakacho Data Center was opened. In 2010, the wireless communication service "Master'sONE Wireless Ethernet" was launched, and in 2011, the cloud-based network camera service "Secure Camera Cloud Service" was introduced. InfoSphere continues to operate as a corporate internet service provider, offering a range of connectivity, security, and hosting solutions. Its parent company, NTTPC Communications, remains a subsidiary of NTT Communications and is part of the NTT Group.
