Overview

Innexis is a German service company headquartered in Marburg that owns and operates pharmaceutical and life-science parks in Europe and supplies specialised engineering and logistics solutions to the pharma and biotech industry. Its roots go back to 1997, when Pharmaserv emerged from Infraserv GmbH und Co. Marburg KG after that company took over the Marburg Behringwerke from Hoechst AG. For decades the business was known through the Pharmaserv brand and the Infrareal holding group; in December 2025 the group rebranded uniformly as Innexis. The company describes itself as an enabler for the pharma and life-science sector, creating the infrastructure on which health and innovation can be built. Its portfolio covers engineering, energy supply, logistics and comprehensive site management, offered through a one-company approach. Innexis is the site operator of the Industriepark Behringwerke in Marburg, the Pharmapark Jena and the Pharma & Life Science Park Orth near Vienna, and it also runs a Pharma Airfreight Hub and distribution centre in Gross-Gerau plus logistics centres in Giessen and Duesseldorf. According to its own figures, Innexis draws on 25 years of pharma experience, employs around 850 people of 20 nationalities and manages 95 hectares of infrastructure for pharma and life science. Since the end of 2021 the group has belonged to a consortium of Swiss Life Asset Managers and Gelsenwasser AG. The company is privately held and is not listed on a stock exchange.

History

Innexis traces its origins to 1 July 1997, when Infraserv GmbH und Co. Marburg KG took over the Marburg Behringwerke — founded in 1904 by Nobel laureate Emil von Behring — from Hoechst AG as owner and site operator. In the course of this change of ownership, the industrial-park operating concept was implemented, with Pharmaserv GmbH as the operating company for the Marbach and Görzhausen I plant sections, providing infrastructure such as roads and parking, supply lines, a data centre, a logistics centre, a works fire brigade and rental space. In 2005 Pharmaserv, until then part of the Sanofi-Aventis group, was sold to its three previous managers and three further shareholders and renamed Pharmaserv GmbH. Even after the renaming, Pharmaserv continued to look after the roughly 100 buildings on the site as well as infrastructure, plant security, maintenance and energy supply for the 16 successor companies of the Behringwerke. In August 2008 the owners of Pharmaserv GmbH and six further private investors from Germany and Switzerland founded the management holding Infrareal GmbH, Germany's first independent site-operator group. Pharmaserv was subsequently integrated into Infrareal GmbH. In the same year Pharmaserv opened a services branch in Frankfurt. In March 2016 Pharmaserv commissioned the newly built Central Pharma Distribution Center Marburg under its Pharmaserv Logistics brand, supporting regional customers with production logistics. A service branch in Cologne followed in 2017. During the 2010s the requirements of companies at the Behringwerke pharma site evolved, necessitating a restructuring at Pharmaserv. The management was renewed: the old management team of Thomas Janssen, Jürgen Schroetter and Stefan Waldschmidt moved up to the management of Infrareal, and Thomas Görge, Peter Michael Weimar and Martin Egger became new managing directors responsible for site management, technology and logistics. From 2023 to 2025 Pharmaserv GmbH was represented by the two managing directors Martin Egger and Peter Michael Weimar. In 2020 the Pharma Airfreight Hub and distribution centre in Gross-Gerau, built under the Pharmaserv Logistics brand, was commissioned. The new distribution centre has since served the packaging of pharmaceutical air freight and regional GMP production logistics in the Rhine-Main area. At the end of 2021 a consortium of Swiss Life Asset Managers and Gelsenwasser AG took over the Infrareal group including Pharmaserv as new shareholders. In 2023 Infrareal Holding GmbH & Co. KG was founded as a holding company taking over central functions for all companies of the group. In December 2025 the company changed its name from Pharmaserv to Innexis. The group, formerly known as Infrareal, now appears uniformly with its brands and sites under the new name Innexis. Since 2025 Martin Egger and Antje Lobisch have served as the company's management. In summer 2025 the takeover of the Pharma & Life Science Park in Orth an der Donau near Vienna was announced, and in 2026 Innexis announced plans to take over the Life Science Campus in Kundl, Austria, from Novartis.
